Blackjack!
For the first time since February 2020, Texas A&M baseball is ranked in D1Baseball’s Top 25 as Jim Schlossnagle’s Aggies appear at No. 21 in the premier college baseball outlet’s Week 10 rankings.
The breakthrough comes after the Aggies won their third consecutive Southeastern Conference series as the Maroon & White took a wild series from the then-No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks in Aggieland.
Texas A&M’s series with the Hogs was memorable as the clubs traded well-pitched ballgames on Friday and Saturday with Nathan Dettmer and Jacob Palisch taking the opener, 2-1, before the visitors answered by taking the second, 3-1. Sunday’s finale was a wild one as A&M led 9-1 after four innings before fending off a furious Razorback rally to win, 11-10.
In the last three weeks, the Aggies have taken series from Kentucky, then-No. 13 Georgia and then-No. 4 Arkansas. Add in a 14-1 thrashing of then-No. 23 Dallas Baptist last Tuesday, and the ball club is more than deserving of national recognition.
Schlossnagle’s Aggies are 25-14 and 10-8 in the best conference in college baseball. They are also 9-3 against ranked foes this season and appear destined to make the NCAA Tournament, which would be a huge accomplishment in year one of the new regime.
With the No. 21 ranking in tow, the Aggies travel to Nashville this weekend to face Vanderbilt for a three-game series beginning on Thursday night.
