Who from this draft class do you see making the most impact next year on campus??

Who from last year will be the ones that rise up big from this seasons team??

you know...fairly telling...the Ags had a slew of draft-eligible position players.

the pros are / were only interested in Shewmake.

scholarships are going to be very tight for the senior class in 2020

Zane Schmidt out of Hutchinson Community College who is a C/DH hit 22 home runs this year as a freshman and is a recent commit for the 2020 season. Of the high school commits, Logan Britt projects well with the bat, and Blake Mayfield can contribute out of the bullpen as a freshman next year. Cam Wynne out of Johnson CC has hit 98-99mph this year as a sophomore but can be erratic.

As for the current Aggie freshman. Leaving out the obvious choices of Weber, Menefee, and Childress, I can see Hunter Watson improving and providing some pop next year along with Brandon Birdsell. Birdsell is going to Alaska this summer to play with the Mat-su Miners. The last 3 pitchers that have gone there and come back were taken in the first 2 rounds of the draft (or will be taken in the case of Lacy): Asa Lacy, John Doxakis, and Corbin Martin.

I'd add Vanek as a freshman pitcher that could contribute.

Getting Britt is fantastic. We really need an OF bat, hopefully he adjusts to the game in the fall and will be ready to contribute. Progress from Watson and Brown would be great as well... I really think we're going to need a new philosophy at the plate though to get more out of them at this point.

2020 class already has 14 commits according to Perfect Game. So those offers have been out there for a while. You will see a few players that were on the roster this year not coming back. I'm not talking about the drafted players either. It happens every year and it happens to every program. I have no idea how college baseball coaches juggle the 11.7 scholarships with all of the variables that are constantly changing.

If he was a draft eligible junior, I'd say no. As a draft eligible sophomore, I'd lean heavily towards no, but stranger things have happened. I'd say 75% chance he leaves, 25% chance he stays.
It's more like 99%. Nowadays, with the way the bonus pool works, teams call the agent for kid they are thinking about drafting and have an agreement in place that the kid will sign for a certain amount when they pick them. If the kid balks, they pick someone else. About the only time it goes south is when their is a physical injury involved.

Failing to do due diligence under the current rules is malpractice.

If you couldn't get playing time in the lineup this year, you have to question your ability to play at this level. Might be one or two exceptions, but beyond that, I expect a lot of attrition from kids who know they aren't getting play time here next year.

Yep and that could free up scholarship money. It is a juggling act for sure.

Birdsell was my pick as well. I think he will be a Brigham Hill type player meaning not real significant innings his freshman year but meaningful his last two

It looks like Blake, Coleman, and Foster are the 3 undrafted juniors with the most career playing time. Do we expect them to all be back next year? Personally, it seems that Coleman has the most potential of the 3, both at the plate and defensively at first base, if he can stay healthy.

It will be really interesting to see what happens with those 3. Seems like Coleman coming back is a forgone conclusion. He's factored into the mix the 3 years, 2 of those years he's had some sort of injury plague him a bit. And with little bro on the team, it makes sense for him to come back for one more round.

Foster and Blake is where things get really interesting to me. Technically they could both still go in the draft. And I guess, even if they didn't get picked in the draft, they could still potentially sign as FA's. I'm not sure what happens, both have been average college hitters at best with below average defensive ability. Not really sure the prospects of coming back for them look that good and it might be time for us to move on regardless.

Logan will be interesting to follow. The White Sox picked appropriately ranked prospects with their first 4 picks and then drafted college seniors for round 5-10. Will need to see how they allocate those savings to their late round high school picks.

It may have been a gamble based on the slot value and what JJ's agent had stated he was looking for.

You might see his agent use it as a negotiating ploy if they are still working out the dollars part of his contract, but people drafted that high aren't going the college route most likely. He did slide a bit in the draft from projections from prior years, so that might be part of the hangup. The agent is trying to maximize his contract, which is what he's supposed to do.

Is this surprising, given that he was just a draft eligible sophomore, drafted in the late rounds, and had ample time to improve his stock?
