It was a check swing, not a bunt

Thanks guys. From your descriptions a score on the dribbler sounds questionable unless the runner was heading home like a suicide squeeze. Wouldn't the catcher have checked third before throwing to 1st, thus holding the runner on third?

The play was on the third base side but closer to the pitcher than the foul line on the dribbler. The pitcher was right handed and so was falling off on the first base side. There is ZERO chance that they would have gotten the fictitious runner on third base out at home on the dribbler. However, it would have been hypothetically possible for the fictitious runner on third to not read the ball off the bat correctly and stay put at third.

It's impossible to know what would've happened. Hitters, pitchers, fielders, coaches all change their approach based on the situation. All I know is that I don't see any reason why the runner was sent back to 2nd, when he would've gotten to 3rd even without the drop. If he was trying to advance, and not just bluffing to draw a throw, he should've been allowed to stay on 3rd. If he saw the drop and advanced, he should be allowed to stay. The only 2 possible rulings IMO were safe at 3rd or out for leaving too early. There was no dead ball situation that would prevent him from advancing.

delayed? 0-0? they might as well just cancel games from noon-6 in all of florida. there's a reason the rays play in that dump of a field.

Quote:

10)Changing a call of "no catch" to "catch": The umpires may conference after a fair batted ball has been hit into the outfield or on any foul ball to determine whether a fielder did or did not make a catch.
a) The ball is dead.
b) All action prior to the ball becoming dead shall be disallowed.
c) The batter shall be declared out.
d) All base runners shall be returned to the base they occupied at the time of the pitch.

The umpires made the correct placement of runners after overturning the "no catch" call. Obviously, getting the call right the first time would have been better and you can certainly argue that the rule book should be changed.

Obviously the only course of action is to always drop the ball on the transfer if runners can tag & go.

If only there were some rule that forbade that

This is a good point on the short-comings of the rule. You could use this to your advantage as long as you can count on the umpire to make the wrong call and then to reverse it subsequently. Sounds like a solid plan. Better yet, fix the rule.

Just rewatching game 2's 8th and 9th innings.

On Penningtons 3 rbi hr, he salutes the Davidson dug out on his way to first base.

Actually, I think he was saluting the crowd. When I saw him do it live, that's the way it appeared to me.

If all you are going to do is throw the ball back in and they are easily going to tag & move up you lose nothing by intentionally dropping the ball on the transfer. If the ump calls it wrong, they go back. If the ump calls it right... yay.

Obviously if you can try for a double play that would be best.

Do we want Florida to win or Wake? This will be one of the 4 teams on our bracket, I am thinking we want the worse pitching staff as Omaha caters to good pitching over good hitting. Give me Wake Forest

I want the team with the best Friday starter to go against TCU and put them in the losers bracket.

We can't help who UL starts, we need Hill to win. That's the only thing we can control. I rather play Floridas saturday guy than deal with TCU, not because we can't beat them, it's that I find their coach contemptible and their fans uncunning.

We are due to beat TCU in a big spot. Beating them in Omaha would almost make me feel better about the last 2 Supers.

No. They ran out of pitching. Got down early, fought back, but when the tide turned again, they had no answer.

I have Florida in my bracket. I went 7 for 8 thinking OU would come through as a 2-seed.

With or without rain our baseball attendance has always been poor, though not as bad as you saw today.
Lots of reasons, some of which are being worked on, some which can't really be resolved, and others are just cultural.

But today just happy for the team.

They lost, what, 8 pitchers for the season? Not surprised they ran out of pitching against a Top 5 team.

Florida baseball might be the only team at their school that has not won a championship. Looks like their average attendance was around 4,100 per game this year
