This game was an example of our two biggest holes, the bullpen and strikeouts. It will be interesting to see if we can figure out who we can trust in big spots, right now I don't trust anyone out of the pen.

You don't give up a 5 run lead in the ninth, You just don't do it. You groove fastballs and make them beat you, because simple stats say grooving fastballs will not result in 5 runs.

Had we won this, people would've complained that it was only the regular season. But since we lost it, suddenly it was the most important game ever.

I felt the exact same this game as I did game 3 at Lupton - that there was no way we were going to score a run, and it was a matter of time before tcu scored.

The extra 2 plus hours has given me time to cool off...

...but total dumb guy move on Childress' part. I get tagged for being too lenient on him, but Sherrod gave up 2 earned and a walk against Incarnate Word on Wednesday and looked bad. Childress fell in love with the idea of Martin being his setup and Sherrod being his closer and ignored the glaringly obvious, which was that Martin had the TCU hitters swinging and missing up 5. A game against #1 isn't the time for confidence boosters, it's time to stick with what works. Neither of those guys are proven closers, so pitch Martin until that doesn't work anymore.

Then, after Sherrod's outing, he puts a freshman with 2.1 innings pitched in his entire career into the game in one of the most stressful situations I could dream up. The game is already in jeopardy at that point.....what made you think someone with 2.1 innings is the solution? After that goes wrong, THEN he goes to upperclassman Chafin who, despite letting the tying run score, then goes on to pitch a billion gutsy innings.

When we lost to TCU 1-4 to end last season, it was with our best pitchers letting some score. Today it was just Childress fiddling with the lineup because he thinks it would be neat to have a setup man and then a closer, and then mindlessly putting a freshman in an absurdly stressful situation to follow that up.

Dumb.

don't be obtuse. Technically this was just one regular season game. Practically it was a game against a team that has owned us for three years, and we needed this game.

And intellectually, I realize this, which is why I never said it before, but emotionally, I blame him, because it's frustrating to be attached to the team and see him make consistently similar coaching decisions over several seasons that lead to outcomes like this. And I get that it's one game out of a season, but it doesn't feel like it's just one game.

I understand and agree that the pitching change to start the 9th was a head scratcher at best. I just don't get all the doom and gloom when we still have conference play and a whole season moving forward. This game has no bearing on how we perform later in tje season and God willing, the postseason.

Absolutely, we have a ton of games left, but a lot of people see this as not the first time Childress has done somewhat bizzare calls in games. I also think most people are really tired right now and emotionally drained by the game. I didn't expect us to win tonight prior to the first pitch, but when a 5 run lead is blown, questions really have to be asked.

Agreed. It's a nonconference "classic" game. Sucks it ended that way but it's far from hang-yourself-from-the-oak-tree stuff. Would be kinda nice to just solidly kick their ass just one time but in the grand scheme, we've got an equally big game in about 14 hours. Get some sleep and beat that Baylol ass tomorrow. Onward.

Your RC defending crusade just looks ridiculous st this point. As I've always said his teams are mentally weak and tonight was just more evidence to that fact. He isn't going to ever win a game in Omaha because his teams lack the mental fortitude to get there.

My biggest problem with childress is not his knowledge of baseball. I have no doubt Childress can instruct how to throw a curve ball better than I could ever dream.

it's that he generically follows the guides of baseball. The reason moneyball worked was that they simply looked at statistics and acted accordingly, even if it went against the way things were typically done.

When you have a 5 run lead, you change your strategy. You don't worry about the solo shot. You challenge hitters. You make them hit. The odds of you giving up so many hits that you give up 5 runs in one inning is negligble when you make hitters hit. the chief worry is walks and baserunners. I just dont see that from him.

Mentally weak? We had one bad inning. There was plenty of times we needed a guy check and came through. I don't agree with RC pulling Martin, but to say we were weak is disgraceful and an outright lie.

Martin pitches the 9th...Ags win...plain and simple.

Maybe not 10-5 but we win for damn sure.

Anyone who stuck that game out at MM earned their 12th man status tonight. Torturous is an understatement.

I've never hated another fan base so much. However, most infuriating thing (as has been mentioned) were the walks in the 9th. Throw freakin BP up there for all I care. It's a 5-run lead, force some dam hits.

just got home from the ballpark and my goodness that 6 hour game was rough. I really hope that loss doesn't bring the team down too much (I think back to Arkansas in 2015 when we blew the game after the overnight rain delay and went on to play our way out of a national seed by losing a few series).

As Ron Washington used to say, "That's the way baseball go!" Putting in your closer to start the 9th makes sense most of the time. That move is less questionable than moves Joe Madden made in the 7th game of the World Series that cost the Cubs a 5-1 lead. But the Cubs won, so all is good. This is a game against a hated rival in March. Let's see how the season turns out before going full BAS
