I still think there's a good chance we add a true 7 footer.

I love all the comments by our closet coaches. Let Bucky coach. He knows what he's doing.

How are any of us stopping Bucky from doing whatever it is he is doing?

Walls already knows the system, has good size , and is an efficient shooter even if not in high volume. Seems like a positive addition to me. I'm thinking low volume shooting replacement for Dominguez but better defender just based on stats.

Is he low volume because he has to pick and choose his spots to shoot due to being a little slow to get the ball up when facing good three-point defense? OR because there were other offensive options that the teams he has been on in the past would rather rely on?

I mean, if he has the ability to shoot more shots AND maintain a success rate of better than 40% - then we should get him more involved.
I am concerned a little about our ability to box out and rebound. We won't have Buzz level success on the boards, but I think we need to improve our ability to limit other teams to one shot and hopefully get more second and third chances on our end of the court.

Hoping we get some physicality and toughness from the portal in addition to good offensive players - as i keep picturing Michigan and Illinois and the other teams that made deep runs in the tournament this year...

Well - looks like a pretty quick reply to my concerns with the Cade Phillips transfer to Aggieland from Tennessee!

You're not. My comment wasn't derogatory to any of you. I actually enjoy reading all the comments.

Is it an appeal to authority, or an appeal to expertise?

I'm an economist. I'd look pretty ridiculous aruging with a neurosurgeon about neurosurgery.

I just don't believe that all opinions are of equal value, and before the mob attacks, I'm, just asking questions.

aren't we still in the mix for some of the 7+ FT portal options?

the one from Cincy?
the one from Charleston?

those two are just from this thread....maybe others too?

With how Bucky runs an offense, we really don't need a slow 7+ player. If we can have 3 or 4 taller guys than we had this year that can play in a fast pace offense and do the small things like box out we will be fine. If we have 3 or 4 big guys that can be swapped out to stay fresh we will be much better than last year.

for being 7+ FT, those two guys mentioned above are actually very athletic.

Same thing. Every coach ever couldn't be questioned by internet nerds because none of us have the resumes they have. Again, I generally trust Bucky and think he's great but I heard the same things about Jimbo, Sumlin and even Fran at some points.

Clemence/Phillips/Mgbako (2 out of the 3) will start so not sure how you will get a starting 7 ft to come here. The truth is centers are very highly coveted right now and we just brought in Phillips which I dont think came here to sit.

If this were a matter of choosing any player that a coach desires, it would fit. But it's much more complicated than that. A coach can know exactly what he wants, but that doesn't mean it's what he's going to get. Choosing what you want amongst what you can actually get in a fast game of musical chairs with a finite budget is more complex than just "knowing what you're doing". With that said, it is difficult to criticize because we don't know the details of so many of the factors involved in getting players to come here.

I guess my point is the message boards will always have people who are excited about everything, people who are angry/upset about anything and then the larger middle like a bell curve. It's not fun or worth having a message board if it's every voice in unison saying "this is perfect and the coach never makes mistakes".

Again, I say this as someone who is more excited about Aggie basketball than I have been since BCG.

Clemence first off bench. Mcbako at 3, Phillips at 4, True Center at 5. Haggerty at 2. Get a lead guard and we are done for starters.

We play positionless basketball to some point but some other teams don't so for defense we need a true center.

I don't really understand the obsession here with 7 footers. It's kinda like girls who reject a guy who is 5'11" but go crazy for a guy who is 6'. We have five guys who are between 6'9" and 6'11". That's pretty much the ideal for modern college basketball. I looked it up and there were like 6 guys over 7' who got meaningful minutes ACROSS ALL SWEET 16 TEAMS.

With that said, 4 of them were on Illinois, Michigan and Arizona. So it's true that really skilled 7 footers are awesome to have. But they're also extremely rare and extremely expensive. There's 3 guys over 7 foot in the entire top 100 transfers right now. Most 7 footers in college basketball suck (see: Fede).

We would have to go all in to get that and tbh, with Bucky's system, I don't think that's the best area to spend all the money. IMO, we've got enough height. We need more talent.

I think maybe the people obsessing over 7 footers mostly watch the NBA so you don't realize how many elite college basketball teams don't have them.

Preach.

I actually think with our style height at the guard and wing spot is vastly more important than at the 5 spot.

We just need a bunch of guys between about 6-4 and 6-9 with complimentary skills that we can have on the floor at the same time.
phatty26
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We are priortizing finishers at the rim which Haggerty is, we were way too small at guard so many times they double the 3 point shooter and we have the lane to drive but our small guards couldnt finish.
Haggerty is 6'-4-1/2" and a real finisher at the rim.
We can add a few more 6-5-6-8 G/F who can do both we are goona be a final 8 team.

This is exactly what I think with bucky type of offense. We don't have to have giant rebounder. But we do 3 or 4 of them to keep them fresh.

I think we need to be variable depending on opponent and all the teams that went far had tall bigs regardless of style.

Doesn't matter we are gonna be that good. We got to the second round with a team smaller than most 6a teams in Texas. We were picked 13th last year who cares if we are picked low again, thank goodness Bucky doesn't care as he'll deliver.

Fede's stock was never higher than after his showing in texas techs NCAA games. He cashed in on that, A&M did not.

Why?

Current title odds sec only:
top of sec, didn't need odds to know
uf 1200
arky1600

next tier
vandy 3000
texas 3000
bama 3000
uk 3500
tenn 4000
mizzou 5000

next tier
LSU 8000
a&m 10000
auburn 10000
ole miss 10000

Talent wise there's a pretty clear top 8, which is what preseason polls are about, gonna need some McDonald's aa to come through the door to make up that gap. Obviously a&m will beat some of the teams above them and it's all about getting hot at the right time for the tourney, but this team isn't gonna have huge preseason hype, which was my main point.
