Did Jace get more minutes in the 2nd half than Manny?
yes

That's negligence
Manny was often completely lost on defense though
everyone's lost when you play one guy over 6'7 against a team with two 7 footers on the court at all times requiring help defense constantly

This game was a lot like Oregon loss early in the season hammerred last 10 minutes of game 30-14.

Posting about Tech and Baylor because they spend less and consistently get deeper than us in the tourney. One of the most fun games I have seen was Tech vs Virginia in the title. Just happened to be in town for a work trip and grabbed a ticket to the title.

Better run basketball teams and they get better results. Year in and year out. A&M really does not know how to do it other than throw money at the problem and hope..

I feel for the team. Should have gone further

I feel for them too, but honestly, this was where they deserved to be. If they made it to the Sweet 16, that would have been playing above their ceiling if you ask me.

This team has had a horrible offensive identity for a few years. We cannot run a 1/2 court offense to save our lives, literally proven today. This is nothing new. We have been one of the worst offensive teams this year. We have also been very good on D, and stellar on the boards.

Our ONLY path to winning is to out rebound the opponent, gathering offensive boards and score off those, and play strong physical D that keeps the opponent scoreless for stretches while we chip away on the other end.

That all changed in the 2nd half today. Michigan opened the game by pressuring us inside. We adjusted and got up by half. We came out of the second by having a good (abnormally good) offensive spurt. Michigan weathered it, and started pressuring us again. The refs decided to start calling everything, and took away our ability to by physical on D or crash the boards. Michigan adjusted and found some offensive flow through passing. We could not adjust, as we don't have another avenue to win.

I don't mean that to be negative towards us. It just is what it is, and has been. We had our ability to be aggressive and play ugly gritty basketball taken away, and we have no other way to win. A team like that is playing on borrowed time in March, and usually won't make it past a game or two. That's why I say we finished right about where we should have. We deserved to be playing in the 2nd round. But, we are not nearly compete enough of a team to be a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 team.

Very proud of these guys. They should hold their heads high.

I'm also hoping we can rebuild over the next year or two with some skilled players, and can develop a true offense to go along with relentless defense.

Well said Cupofjoe04! Nice summation of this game, and this team overall.

Falling short of the Sweet Sixteen is a disappointment. We should have made it.

They shot 27 free throws in the second half. In the 5:30 it took for them to close a 10-point deficit to take their first lead of the half, they shot 12 free throws. This season they averaged 20 FTA per game. That seems hard to explain, but even moreso if you watched the game or read the people saying they played more physical than us.

At this level you have to bring your A game. Payne was a beast, but too many others guys didn't play well. If you lose, you want to say we played well and just got beat by a better team that day. Michigan is a damn good team, but Aggies didn't have enough guys answer the bell and d it's going to eat at these young men a long time. Fun group to root for, ended a lot sooner than we wanted and definitely a lot sooner than they wanted.

Finished the year 3-6 in the last 9 games and done on the 1st weekend of NCAA against a team we were up by 10pts in 2H.

Yes - just chalk it up to another reason why BAS is a real thing.

Plus the Baseball team gave up another SEC series versus Vandy this weekend. Just another BAS weekend.

Just a smaller note - wife took daughter to the softball game today. They lost too.

It was very disheartening to watch us blow a 60-50 lead with 13:17 left to lose to Michigan 91-79 in the 2nd round. Michigan outscored us 41-19 in the last 13:17, including 9-0 in the last 1:29 to prevent us from making our first Sweet 16 appearance since 2018.

Hard to admit that Tech and Baylor better than A&M with far less resources. Incredible.. Embarrassing.

It's not a great season. We won 1 tournament game.

When we went to the Sweet 16 - those were great seasons.

This is the mentality problem our university has.

We "tried". Results don't seem to matter.

So going to the sweet 16 versus the round of 32 makes a great season or not huh?

Pretty much. Nobody remembers the field of 32. Name another program that invests as much in its programs to lose so much. Tech is better than us… so we're not even the best in the state. It's easier when we just quit caring and are pleasantly surprised to over-achieve in anything once a decade.

Um, tceh isn't the only Texas team better than us.

Tech has a big money donor that donates for basketball - Dusty Womble. Not sure if he's supporting any other sports.

On Friday, Texas Tech announced plans for the Dustin R. Womble Football Center with Womble and his wife, Leisha, providing a $20 million donation. Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt said it's the largest single gift ever to the department.
.....

The lead donor for the new building also was the lead donor for the Dustin R. Womble Basketball Center, giving $10 million to that $32.2 million facility that opened in the spring.

$20 million gift for football

I stand corrected. Of the $30 million he's donated to Tech athletics, only a third of it was for basketball

Man that sucked but it was typical of the last two months. The offense managed to get a lead then went through too many streaks of being ice cold. Then can't do anything to battle back. Hate to lose game that was definitely winnable but that's Aggie sports. Payne was great again but everyone else was fair to poor. So tired of not winning big.

We graduate tens of thousands of people every year and don't have a single big donor like tech or Houston high to bankroll basketball. That's what is incredible to me.

Anyone know if the Roku founder (Aggie) is a big Aggie sports fan? He would have the financial means for sure.
