How can you not AT LEAST be hopeful?
He basically didn't practice preseason and in four games is shooting 56% from 2 (something the rest of our guards are terrible at) and has an assist rate of 25.5% (definitely in the zone that we're hoping for) and is in the top ten in the country in steal percentage. He has four fewer steals in four games than Boots did in 31 games last year.
And in one of those four games we dusted a ranked team. I know the other three were bad teams but he played a key role in us just completely shutting down Ohio State, currently a top 25 efficiency offense.
At a bare minimum he's established that he's a solid threat attacking the basket and a high level defender.
Yes he's been loose with the ball and he's shot a few too many threes, I'm not saying he's been great, but I don't know how you could watch him play and not at least be hopeful about what he's bringing to the floor this season considering he's been playing and practicing for like three weeks.
Well for starters I gave him a B+ in his debut and haven't seen improvement since. Let's also look at his stat line against the only team with a pulse that he has played - Ohio State:
MIN 31
FG 3-12 (25%)
2PT 2-7 (28.5%)
3PT 1-5 (20%)
FT 7-12 (58%)
OREB 1
DREB 3
REB 4
AST 3
STL 2
BLK 0
TO 6 (equal to the rest of our team combined)
PF 4
PTS 14
I've been told to give him a break due to circumstances and wait (how long though?) and that we'll be super happy to have him on the team by the end of the season so I wasn't going to comment much on him until after Vegas but... you asked.
