Hoping to see major improvement from him. Love that he pushed the issue but he's 8th in the country in turnovers and his FTs leave a lot to be desired. I think (hope) he will tighten it up.

He needs to be smarter about when to shoot it too. But I still like him a lot, just needs to keep playing with these guys and build chemistry. Especially for the kind of player he is he's gotta get used to where other people are going to be.

His assist totals will need to drastically improve for us to be successful against good competition. He has the ball in his hands way too much to have 3 assists against Ohio St and 1 assist tonight. He did cut down on the turnovers tonight.

Way too soon to say that. I've been saying that we are weeks away from seeing Phelps at his best and this team learning to play with him, and I still believe that. He's already a difference-maker on defense.
We do need Manny to be that third scoring threat at guard, but Phelps is a huge piece for us.
Yeah I disagree also. With Payne and Phelps, even if Manny doesn't play well, I think our floor is higher than last year. Now if we're talking about trying to reach some rare elite heights, then yeah, we're going to need Manny to be better.
Phelps and Manny need judgment on pulling up and not rubbing traffic, too. And everyone needs to scrap the last passing. Southern ate us up though admittedly they were guard heavy. But it wasn't just one Aggie doing it…

Phelps is just a pretty bad basketball player. Poor dribbler poor shooter and not good ups on drives. Thankfully his defense is great
If you want to say he's not an efficient basketball player then fine, but to say he's bad is ridiculous.
As an Aggie he hasn't been able to dribble, make free throws or make threes all pretty poor.
He's been bad at some things but he's still averaging 16 points, 4.5 boards and three assists for a ranked team despite not practicing for like three weeks.
I'm not saying he's been brilliant but he's been a lot better than "pretty bad."

His turnover numbers are way too high and his shot selection is questionable but that can be fixed
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.
He just needs to stop dribbling into double coverage in the lane and jacking the ball up. He's had like 4 of those per game so far.

At least he makes the shots a lot. He's shooting 56% inside the arc compared to 45% for Manny and 38% for Taylor.

Haha, when he attacks well he nails. There are just some reallly bad times he over-commits to the drive and it's just really ugly. Like a total waste of a possession.

I've thought more than a few times that it's going to be hard to watch him the entire season. He's just going to drive me insane.
But he's definitely not a bad player. Has all the tools just does a lot of dumb stuff.

He's only been playing and practicing for what, 2 to 3 weeks, he missed both exhibitions and the UCF season opener due to injury. He's a little behind in the ability to gel with the team, but that's never discussed on the message boards, it's always - god he sucks, play X. But I'll at least say it again for the fifteenth time, for 3 or 4 different players and sports.
I mean to be fair the fact that he hasn't practiced much has been extremely discussed on here
ok, sounds good. didn't seem like it was known in this thread, but cool. it's important to know he's going to continue to get better with chemistry/knowledge of his teammates movements, roles, where they want the ball,etc., thx.

Well, when your role is point guard, your coach might consider your role of distributing the ball is more important.
And as a former basketball player and as a former point guard, I was more interested in how I was able to get the rest of my team involved.
