Alright Ags, we're one month from tip off. How are we feeling?

Last year's prediction thread: Most predictions came in before the Marble news and we generally underestimated the impact of that loss, so everyone overshot it, but MarcAg with a late add nailed it:
  • Prediction of the year - MarcAg - "If marble doesn't play this year then put me down for a 9 seed"
  • Bold predictions that came true:
    - The Marksman: Solo becomes a full-time starter
    - CactusThomas: Garcia finds a way to contribute without being able to draw 17 charges per 40
    - taylorswift13: Arkansas has another losing record in conference play
    - Topher17: Kansas State misses the tournament
  • Worst predictions of the year:
    - Everyone who said Marble would play
  • Tennessee won the SEC: me, cactusthomas, Topher17, GrayMatter
  • UCONN winning the natty: nobody
  • Almost: a few people (myself, zooguy96, Topher17) had Purdue winning the national title and/or in the Final Four

2024-25 Predictions:

Overall regular season record (31 games): 24-7
Conference regular season record: 13-5
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA's, 3 seed
Conference champion: Alabama
National champion: Alabama

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: Phelps and Manny's assist percentages. Need these two to be actual threats to pass the ball to keep pressure off of Taylor. If these guys can get up around 20% we'll really be in business.

Other bold predictions:
  • We start in the Top 25 and never fall out (think we've only done this once)
  • We beat Texas by double digits in the home game
  • The San Diego State game thread will have like 3 people posting on it
  • Taylor shoots over 38% from 3, is the SEC POY, and overtakes the school scoring record against Georgia on Feb 11.
  • We avoid the minislump and don't lose more than two games in a row, which we'll do twice (in that late November/early December stretch and in mid-February)

2024-25 Predictions:

Overall regular season record (31 games): 22-9
Conference regular season record: 14-4
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA's, 2 seed
Conference champion: Alabama
National champion: Duke

Bold prediction:

This team defensively is going to remind us of the old BCG teams with Kirk/Law/etc but maybe better.
I just like Andre Mills and think he'll be the freshman surprise.
"Can I Ask What Exactly Is An Aggie? Sure! An Aggie is quite simply the best thing anyone can strive to be!" - Sydney Colson

I'm gonna go with some big, bold predictions. I genuinely think we're going to be really really good this year, probably getting better as the season goes, per the Buzz style.

Overall regular season record (31 games): 26-5
Conference regular season record: 15-3
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA, 2 seed
Conference champion: Alabama
National champion: Duke

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%:
Minutes played per game by Dockery, Mills, and Turkson. The team is so deep this year that these talented young guys might not be expected to play a lot this season, but if any of them do see the court regularly(especially in conference play), I think that means they're even better than anticipated/ahead of schedule and could make a real difference in the outcome of our season off the bench.

Bold predictions:
  • IV, MO, and Phelps all average more than 12 PPG
  • Our starting 5 of IV, MO, Phelps, Solo, and Payne is one of the best in the nation, powering us to finish the year top 20 in the nation in PPG(last year this would've required us to average 82 a game(we averaged 75))
  • Jace takes a leap forward, leading all scorers off the bench and heading a dangerous and deep 2nd unit alongside Andy, Henry, and others.

Man, I know football season must be going well when we've only got three predictions so far.

As much as I am a fan, I usually don't feel well-informed enough to have a solid opinion. It would be nice if we could break the mid-season slump habit this year, though.

the TexAgs empire was built on ill-informed opinions. Take a swing buddy. Who cares if you're wrong and if you're right your legend will live on forever*

*forever meaning you will get props on next year's predictions thread, that's basically right up with Genghis Khan and Caesar when it comes to immortality

Overall regular season record (31 games): 22-9
Conference regular season record: 14-4
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA - 5 SEED
Conference champion: FLORIDA
National champion: KANSAS

Stat of the year other than score:
- Manny Obaseki's points per game - if Manny eats, we all eat

- Hayden Hefner minutes per game - hopefully under 6, in the resident Hayden Hefner Hater (HHH) love his spark on offense, but he's a liability on defense and teams love to attack him on switches

- Andersson Garcia 3 point attempts - opens up the offensive driving lanes and I'm gonna pretend to be an expert and say that's what he's been working on this offseason

- Which freshman has the biggest impact: Rob Dockery, George Turkson, Andre Mills

Bold Predictions
- tu doesn't make tournament, Rodney Terry is fired

- someone will get the dunk predictions exactly right

- we lose 3 games in Vegas, but we have fun and learn some lessons and have cool content for YouTube

- we go undefeated at home in conference play
frenchtoast

Ok, here goes:

Overall regular season record (31 games): 23-8
Conference regular season record: 14-4
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA's, 3 seed
Conference champion: Texas A&M
National champion: UConn

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: Andy breaks a rebound record, not sure if it's school, conference or national

Other bold predictions:
  • Wade will make his senior season count and will be one of the top players in the country.
  • Manny will have another late blooming season.
  • Our roster will remain rapist-free.
  • We'll have an explicable loss followed by the usual dip****s posting that Buzz has only won one tournament game in 6 years.
  • Someone will mention their family name on campus buildings.
EliteZags

  • Jaelyn Lee truthers are redeemed when he's given Hefner's minutes and produces 20+pts/40m

I actually answered all the questions to make bobinator happy.

Overall regular season record (31 games): 22-9
Conference regular season record: 12-6
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA's, 4 seed (Elite 8 run which means taking out a 1 seed)
Conference champion: Alabama
National champion: Baylor

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%:
We don't have a 3 game losing steak this year.

Other bold predictions:
  • All Texas finals with Baylor vs Houston
  • Aggies become "Lob City" in College Station. Not to the college basketball world, but just amongst ourselves we will say that because of all the alley-oops.
  • Ratowski actually plays some this year instead of purposely redshirting
  • We are not a horrible three point shooting team. Might not be good, but not horrible. This feels dumb as I am typing it.
  • Not bold, but Phelps has a really good season and is major key to our success.

Damnit I just read the thread and bobinator also picked Aggies to not have a 3 game losing streak. I didnt want to be influenced by others so I did mine without reading the thread and now I gave the same answer and don't like that

Other bold predictions:

Bobinator accurately calls out Hop's sock by game four

A projected starter is mysteriously unavailable for game one

We are a sub .500 team in games where Buzz wears a bow tie. Thankfully he seems to figure this out early enough

We win the SEC tournament

If we make it through the second week of December then we should be good here.

Oregon/Creighton/SDSU/Wake/Tech/Purdue is a hell of a stretch.
Method Man

I assume this team is going to be FAST. Maybe not by the metrics because defensively we'll cause some long possessions but I bet we get up and down the court quite a bit.

with that wingspan it'll be enough to affect a shot

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: How many games does the starting five play together? Not that this team isn't deep but, just to keep a rhythm I think health is key to success.

Other bold predictions:
- Coleman pushes 10 double doubles on the year
- RS Fresh Rob Dockery works his way into the rotation
- A&M only has two players on All SEC teams (Wade + 1)

Conference regular season record: 14-4

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: I think I said the same thing last year, but opponent offensive rebounding %. We improved last year, but if we can take another step to limit second and third looks from 3 for our opponents, I think we can do a much better job of putting teams away and not giving them hope.

Other bold predictions:
Porter Moser is no longer at OU by the end of March.
UCLA wins the BIG10.
Ags finish in the Top 15 in KenPom for the first time since 2007.

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: Bench production in PPG and RPG

Other bold predictions:
  • Aggies win SEC regular season due to beating Bama, Tenn & Auburn at home
  • A&M leads the conference in raw TOs per game (fewest) and also in Assist/TO ratio.
  • Andre Mills is a starter by February 1
  • January 4 against sip is sellout game
  • For the 3rd straight year, Nate Oates does or says something absolutely WILD and deserving of major national scrutiny yet gets zero scrutiny for it
BuzzFan24

I really hope you are wrong about Mills starting by Feb. 1st....that would mean some crazy injuries!

Also I dig the Oats take.

Conference regular season record: 10-8
Postseason tournament? Which one? Seed: NCAA's, 6 seed
Conference champion: Alabama
National champion: Houston

Stat of the year other than score, turnovers, FT% and 3pt%: Taylor goes cold a lot less often. Last year, he had 13 games where he made either one or zero 3-pointers. I think he cuts that in half this year. (Kind of 3-pointer-related, but not 3pt%)

Other bold predictions:
  • 2-5 start to conference play (as is tradition)
  • Surprise home loss (as is tradition): Georgia
  • Taylor goes for 40+ in a loss to Creighton
  • Random non-con game where Hefner goes off (as is tradition): Southern
  • Kentucky loses to Louisville in Rupp

I was thinking more "he's going to be so good that he forces himself into the starting lineup." Maybe Wade-Mills-Manny as the 3 guards.

If Mills is so good that he pushes Phelps to the bench I'm going to go ahead and get a hotel room in San Antonio.
