During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the hardwood, the diamonds and beyond as there is plenty going on with Texas A&M Athletics.


Basketball (23-12, 9-9 in SEC)
Buzz Williams & Co. put together an amazing Cinderella run to the SEC Tournament championship game, knocking off a number of ranked opponents in the process.

  • Friday: Texas A&M 67, No. 4 Auburn 62
    • Tyrece Radford led the way with 19 points.
    • Quenton Jackson scored 17, and Henry Coleman III had 16.
  • Saturday: Texas A&M 82, No. 15 Arkansas 64
    • The Aggies led by 12 points at the break.
    • Jackson had a team-high 20 points.
    • Three other Aggies scored in double figures: Hassan Diarra (12), Radford (11) and Coleman (10).
    • Hayden Hefner had nine, including a two-handed dunk.
  • Sunday: No. 9 Tennessee 65, Texas A&M 50
    • The Vols jumped out to a 14-0 lead, and the Aggies never recovered, playing their fourth game in as many days.
    • Radford had 13 points, and Coleman had 12.

Despite winning eight of their last ten, including a seven-game winning streak, the Aggies were inexplicably left out of the NCAA Tournament field of 68 on Sunday evening. However, the Maroon & White play in the NIT, beginning on Tuesday night.

  • Texas A&M hosts Alcorn State at Reed Arena for an 8 p.m. CT tip on Tuesday.
  • The first-round matchup between the Aggies and Braves will be broadcasted on ESPN2.

Baseball (10-5, 0-0 in SEC)
With SEC play looming, Jim Schlossnagle’s Aggies earned a “small victory” this weekend in the form of a series victory over the Santa Clara Broncos at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Aggies return to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park on Tuesday night to host the Houston Cougars.

  • First pitch is set for 5:02 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on the SEC Network+.
  • Gametime was moved up from 6:32 p.m. to allow fans to attend the NIT game at Reed.

Softball (15-8, 0-3 in SEC)
Texas A&M suffered three hard-fought losses on the road at No. 20 Auburn this weekend.

The Aggies return to Davis Diamond on Tuesday night to host the Sam Houston Bearkats.

  • First pitch is set for 6:02 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on the SEC Network+.

Men’s Tennis (13-6, 3-0 in SEC)
Head coach Steve Denton became the all-time winningest coach in Texas A&M tennis history when the Aggies defeated Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Center. The win over Mississippi State was Denton’s 319th career victory and was the third of four A&M wins this weekend.

    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-0.
    • Noah Schachter won his match over George Harwell in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
    • Guido Marson won his match over Max Freeman in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).
    • Giulio Perego won his match over Jeremie Casabon in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
    • Luke Casper won his match over Siim Troost in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 7-5).
  • Friday: Texas A&M 5, Lamar 0
    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-0.
    • Matthis Ross won his match over Juan Jose Rodriguez in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
    • Mathis Bondaz won his match over Max Amling in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
    • Rahul Dhokia won his match over Filippo Salsini in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
    • Kenner Taylor won his match over Brandon Do in straight sets (6-0, 6-4).
  • Sunday: Texas A&M 5, Mississippi State 2 (SEC)
    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-0.
    • Schachter won his match over Florian Broska in straight sets (6-2, 7-6).
    • Marson won his match over Bautista Vilicich in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
    • Perego won his match over Gregor Ramskogler in straight sets (6-4, 6-0).
    • Casper won his match over Alberto Colas in straight sets (6-3, 6-4).
  • Sunday: Texas A&M 7, Abilene Christian 0
    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-0.
    • Perego won his match over Daniel Morozov in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).
    • Stefan Storch won his match over Dario Kmet in straight sets (7-6, 6-4).
    • Bondaz won his match over Tyler Stewart in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
    • Pierce Rollins won his match over Savan Chhabra in straight sets (7-5, 6-4).
    • Dhokia won his match over Cesar Barranquero in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
    • Austin Abbrat won his match over Oswaldo Cano in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

The Aggies are back at the Mitchell Tennis Center on Tuesday when they host a pair of matches.

Women’s Tennis (18-1, 4-0 in SEC)
No. 11 Texas A&M earned two more victories this weekend as the Aggies went a perfect 2-0 through the Magnolia State.

  • Friday: No. 11 Texas A&M 7, Mississippi State 0
    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-0.
    • Carson Branstine won her match over Emma Antonaki in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
    • Tatiana Makarova won her match over Tamara Racine in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
    • Mary Stoiana won her match over Chloe Cirotte in straight sets (7-6, 6-4).
    • Jayci Goldsmith won her match over Tamara Racine via a tiebreaker (4-6, 6-4, 1-0).
    • Gianna Pielete won her match over Alessa Tagliente in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
    • Jeanette Mireles won her match over Marta Falceto in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
  • Sunday: No. 11 Texas A&M 5, Ole Miss 2
    • A&M won the doubles point, 2-1.
    • Branstine won her match over Sabina Machalova in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-3).
    • Makarova won her match over Anaelle Leclercq in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
    • Stoiana won her match over Ludmila Kareisova in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-1).
    • Goldsmith won her match over Reka Zadori in straight sets (6-1, 7-5).

Track & Field
At the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Texas A&M won three national event titles.

  • Lamara Distin won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 6-3.5/1.92m.
  • Brandon Miller won the men’s 800m with a time of 1:47.19, leading the race from the get-go.
  • The men’s 4x400m relay team of Miler, Omajuwa Etiwe, Chevannie Hanson and Emmanuel Bamidele won the Aggies’ third event title with a time of 3:04.16.
  • Texas A&M’s men finished fifth with 26 points.
  • Texas A&M’s women finish tenth with 24 points.

Women’s Golf
Behind the lowest round in program history, No. 19 Texas A&M finished as the runner-up at the 2022 Clover Cup at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.

  • The Aggies shot a 14-under 274 in Sunday’s final round. The previous low was 13-under at the 2019 Battle at the Beach and the 2014 Alamo Invitational.
  • Blanca Fernández García-Poggio tied a program record on Sunday, shooting an 8-under 64.
  • Jennie Park finished tied for second and posted a career-low 8-under 208 for the weekend.

Men’s Golf
No. 21 Texas A&M opens the 37th Louisiana Classics tournament on Monday in Lafayette.

  • A&M’s lineup includes Sam Bennett, Walker Lee, William Paysse, Phichaksn Maichon and Dani Rodrigues. Evan Myers will compete as an individual.
  • The tournament begins on Monday, March 14, and will conclude on Tuesday, March 15.
  • Louisiana Lafayette hosts the event at the 6,898-yard Oakbourne Country Club.
  • The tournament will be streamed on ESPN+.

Equestrian (11-3, 5-1 in SEC)
No. 1 Texas A&M was upset by No. 2 Oklahoma State on Senior Day at Hildebrand, 9-8.

  • Rhian Murphy won Most Outstanding Performer honors for flat.
  • Hayley Riddle won Most Outstanding Performer honors for horsemanship.
