I think you've previously suggested we fold the program entirely so probably best to leave you off the hoops planning and fundraising committee
That's a really, really bad ideaMaroon Dawn said:Aggie09Derek said:
Where next to Kyle do you plan this?
Tear down Koldus and put it there
I have Stockholm Syndrome about Blocker---so many terrible memories such that I'd hate to see it go...or see future generations getting off easy by not having to deal with that hell hole.aggeeme said:
So not really sports related but please tear Blocker down too. It's just nasty.
it originally was called the A&A building. But so many coeds had classes there it devolved to the T&A buildingTXAggie2011 said:I have Stockholm Syndrome about Blocker---so many terrible memories such that I'd hate to see it go...or see future generations getting off easy by not having to deal with that hell hole.aggeeme said:

Put the students on the lower level behind the announcers will create a better atmosphere.
Will make the players ball out.
Will make it easier to recruit.
Will make it easier to win games.
Will make it easier for season ticket holders to complain about not being closer to the action and that is the result we should want.
The end result is the problem I seek and hope we create.
A great team to root for, a great atmosphere that is self-promoting, even if the season ticket holders are not as close.
However, everybody likes a winner.
Good point. If you're going to compare college baseball to the Olympics let's figure out how many people just watched the World Series with two Aggie pitchers compared to college track meets.bgrimm05 said:PascalsWager said:If you only care about big time sports, why would baseball be included? Its a footnote sport nationally. You could argue track especially with NIL could be more meaningful face of the university than any baseball accomplishment by ANY program ever. I'd guess 30 million people AT LEAST worldwide was Athing Mu win the Olympic title in the 800m. If you took the sum of all unique people watching every college baseball game ever played (live or on TV), I doubt you'd get to 30 million.miller0926 said:
I posted this on the Premium thread... I agree with Gap on this one. I know I need to stay in my lane when it comes to big money like this because all I can afford is a low 5-figure donation, but unless there is any upgrades to Kyle, nothing needs to take money from a basketball stadium upgrade. It baffles me why we would spend anymore money on soccer, tennis, and track. I don't care how dominant our indoor track team is, nobody knows about them outside of Aggieland (and I would only say 1 out of every 100 Aggies know it at that).
What is presented in the capital plan:
Student Athlete Academic Center: $35 million
New Football Practice complex: $40 million
Bright Building Renovation: $15 million
New Indoor Track Complex: $45 million
New soccer stadium: $30 million
Blue Bell Park Upgrade: $30 million
Indoor Tennis Courts: $15 million
Training Field Pavilion: $10 million
Reed Arena: $125 million
Total: $345 million
What I think it needs to be:
Academic Center: $0
Practice Complex: $20 million
Bright: $0
Indoor Track Complex: $0
Soccer Stadium: $0
Blue Bell Park Upgrade: $30 million
Indoor tennis courts: $0
Training Field Pavilion: $0
Reed Arena: $295 million
Why are you comparing a college sport to the olympics? Seems odd. People weren't watching Athing because she is an Aggie

Students on one side with alumni on the other, you say? Might work... do we have evidence from any other on-campus sports to back this up???
All kidding aside, that shot of Jolly Rollie looks like an awesome environment to watch/play in.
Back in the day, when those games were sold out, they showed the game on a screen in Rudder.Sterling82 said:DR.ZAP said:

When it was full it was outstanding. I still have good memories of an Arkansas game around 80-81. Eddie Sutton / Shelby Metcalf and a raucous crowd. My "seat" was in the aisle.
I loved the atmosphere and loved being on the floor close enough to get a warning from a ref for shoving cash in front of his face after a bad call.Sterling82 said:DR.ZAP said:

That's how Cameron Indoor got to be Cameron Indoor. Students used to be in bleachers encircling the court. Now they are one side and one basketball, but yes it makes a huge difference. CIS only seats 9500.wareagle044 said:
Got to put the students closer to courtside and behind the broadcast tables. They did this in Auburn and it changed the environment tremendously.
This is correct. Needs a complete rehaul of seating design. There is not a bad seat in Cameron. I've been up top in Reed and it's awful. We don't go unless we can get seats on the lower level.Gap said:
The problem with Reed is that there are just too few "good" seats. Everything is too far from the court because of the design as a multi-use for everything facility ignoring that basketball is the main tenant. The only "good" seats are the courtside seats with the double letter rows. Of course, these are actually pull out bleachers that can be removed in case of a tractor pull or something. The majority of seats just start too far away from the court - whether student or alumni. I don't even like the sideline mezzanine seats above the rails. They are too far away as well. Bottom line is few people love their seats.

While I agree the upper deck seats are unnecessary and might as well be a separate universe for basketball games, they do get filled out every year for graduations and Muster. Without them they would have to split the graduations into a million smaller ceremonies which the university administration has zero desire to do because it would take an extra week.Sterling82 said:DukeMu said:This is correct. I've never understood the infatuation with double decking every stadium. I thought we could have had a concourse at mid level without the second deck in this instance. In any event, sitting up there might as well be Mars as far as my experience goes.

9k is the max we need for a basketball arena
We have no winning team or tradition or even a fun unique atmosphere for b-ball (just a terrible attempt at aping FB that doesn't work in basketballs tempo)
Attendance will always struggle in anything bigger but with a super nice, basketball first 9k arena it will be mostly full most of the time

Reed looks so outdated compared to other college arenas. Desperate need for an upgrade
For starters, compare it to the arena in Lubbock that was built at the same time. It ain't even close.Complete Idiot said:rsf0626 said:

Name the arenas that make it look outdated and what specifically looks dated to you
