More to the point, I think that the issue of college players getting paid is usually misunderstood and misrepresented, even by people who follow the sport. It isn't primarily an issue of coaches and boosters paying players like in the old Blue Chips movie. It is mostly about shoe companies and agents paying future pros to get a handle on lucrative relationships.

As always, the NCAA is there to jump on the poor slob that doesn't have the pull within that organization to avoid penalties. It's a great system to "randomly" crucify those not in the inner circle. Level playing field, uh hu. FU tu, FU Kentucky, FU Kansas, FU NCAA, FU all.
No, that's why this isn't about anyone at A&M paying a player. It's about an agent paying a player.queso1 said:
Do people at tamu really care that much about basketball that they would pay players?

Its about an agent paying a player - actually in Robert Williams' case apparently his dad - at the request of one of our assistant coaches, with the expectation that the assistant coach would then encourage the player to sign with the agent...even if the agent is a low life con-artist (for all the coach knows) who may very well end up stealing from and/or significantly damaging the player financially.agsfan said:Belton Ag said:No, that's why this isn't about anyone at A&M paying a player. We know it either happened or perjury occurred in that federal court testimony. Blazer testified that discussion of sending the money was 'w/ Rahim & Dawkins and the undercover FBI agent'...BQ_90 said:which we really don't know if it happened or not.Pumpkinhead said:Its about an agent paying a player - actually in Robert Williams' case apparently his dad - at the request of one of our assistant coaches, with the expectation that the assistant coach would then encourage the player to sign with the agent...even if the agent is a low life con-artist (for all the coach knows) who may very well end up stealing from and/or significantly damaging the player financially.agsfan said:Belton Ag said:No, that's why this isn't about anyone at A&M paying a player. The way you get people to talk is by granting immunity to those who do talk. That is immunity is conditional. If you grant blanket immunity then the "no snitches" code prevails and nobody says anything.

Friday night, CBS Sports reporter Matt Norlander, who provided the original report, clarified his information.
"I need to amend this, as wording was misleading," Norlander tweeted. "Abdur-Rahim did go to Cosmo to meet with Dawkins and Co., but (original) tweet suggests he was part of the shoe shipping deal, which was not the case (Abdur-Rahim took no $)."
