Do wish he had made that shot vs Bama though! So close to an NCAA bid....

BK has given the ball to Reese, Tavario and Allen to win games. He set up a play for Kourtney to take a 12 foot jump shot when he never shoots them.

I don't recall the play being for Kourtney to take a 12 foot jump shot, Method. I think they were trying to get something going to the rim. I remember it being explained in presser but too lazy to look.

Against Mizzou two years ago? Maybe so.

I know Peyton had a lot of quality programs calling. This late in the game you are not going to find a program the caliber of WSU with scholarships open. There is no question, after he sits one year, he has a commitment that he will be on scholarship thereafter. WSU will be a great fit for him.

While the Aggies are looking better on paper, until BK proves he can coach and bring these kids together, this is a step up, not down....

He seemed like the kind of player who would be great to have in any program, even if just a role player. Yeah, will be a bit surprised if he isn't on a WSU scholarship 1 year from now.

Are we still talking Bama game? I don't recall the drawn up play being trying to get Roberson open for a 12 foot jumper. Kourtney in post-game said what the deal was, if I also recall. So the details are possibly out there, if either of us care. I guess I sort of don't. Game should not even had to come down to that one play.

The correct answer is this says Gilder is really good and should play a lot.

Going to miss Peyton but don't blame him. He was a very good kid with excellent basketball IQ. Wish him only the best.

Unless he's content to be a role guy at WSU (which he was not here apparently), I wouldn't assume this is a great fit. He will need to get much better to be a consistent minutes guy on a Greg Marshall team. Best thing he has going is his attitude- which appeared to be awesome. But he needs to get better off the dribble, spot up shooting, and on defense.

Personally, a lower tier mid-major team would have made more sense to me. A place like Missouri State or some such.

Marshall did recruit Allen originally, so there is a level of familiarity there that probably helped...

Surprised he would leave a scholarship on the table to go somewhere else as a walk on.

Me too. I'm sure he had scholarship options. If I were him I'd probably rather start or be a 6th man at a mid-tier midmajor, than seldom get used at WSU.

Maybe they made him some future promises.

Wish him the best. Has some talent and looked like a great attitude to go along with it .

peyton looked like he lost all confidence at the end of the season. He looked really badly playing defense and even though he was not swift of foot he should not have looked that way. He can flat out shoot so maybe he can get on the court at WSU b/c his opportunities were going to be limited here.

I guess we got better with him out and R. Mitchell in.

Hope this works out for PA.

I'd say Mitchell appears to have the better upside. Unless Mitchell surprises, Allen would likely have helped more this year though. We will see. If redshirting was popular in college basketball, Mitchell seems like a great candidate given how new he is to the game (his story reminds of Evans-- a late bloomer that redshirted along with Johnny).

But don't expect a redshirt to happen.

He should save the redshirt for when he transfers.

I don't think they have figured out Allen yet though. They seem to think he's playing this year which apparently isn't the case (?).

Allen didn't "transfer" to WSU in the NCAA sense. He has technically left A&M to go walk on (read: no scholarship) at WSU. Since he is not on scholarship, he could play this year

Besides Glass transferring and maybe making room for Allen, looks like WSU also had two other players who were scholarship guards from last year transfer out of the program during this off-season (Holland & Henderson Jr who was from Dallas and ending up at Blinn). This move by Allen does make a bit more sense to me if he gets a scholarship. WSU is a good basketball program right now, but the more I thought about this, paying his own way when he had several scholarship opportunities at some other schools (including walking away from one at A&M) was a little bit of a head scratcher to me.

quote:
Glass is the final departure from last season's team to find a new school. Guard Ria'n Holland will be a sophomore at Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College and guard Corey Henderson Jr., also a sophomore, is transferring to Blinn (Texas) College. Guard Jared Walker, a walk-on, will remain at WSU and focus on school.

Not saying he will or won't in terms of a scholarship, but WSU does appear to be set up to offer one at least.

I could be wrong, but I dont think thats right, Mike. Allen's participation last season should be what we call a 'transfer trigger', which deems him a transfer student-athlete in the eyes of the NCAA regardless of scholarship status.

Now, there are exceptions to play immediately, but I think those won't apply and he will have to complete the 'academic year in residence' requirements to be eligible next year.

There is a seven footer who left Stanford to walk on at UF this year. Kid can't play till spring semester. I bet Allen sits. I've heard he sits regardless as they'll redshirt him and get him up to speed on the changes he faces playing for Marshall.

Yeah, I think you have to sit out a year regardless of whether you are paying your own way or not. If the NCAA allowed a player to immediately play if he footed his own bills, I could see that perhaps providing even more incentive for some booster assisted 'financial 'aid' tomfoolery to get an impact transfer on the court immediately.

Not if he wanted to go play for a great coach who has a history of developing players.

The paying your own way thing may not be so bad. WSU has a thing in place where OK and TX residents dont pay much in terms of out of state tuition. So a move to Wichita doesn't cost nearly as much as it would if normal OOS tutition were to apply. With a scholarship lurking ahead, it appears at least.

Again, not saying that's how its going down, but its plausible.

The Shocker thread was kind of funny- just because they don't know any better yet. I don't care if Peyton played some pg in high school, no way he's playing point for significant minutes.

They also have a lot of pride for a program, that less than 10 years ago we took their coach fairly easily.. Of course some of that pride is well-deserved, since they've had a hell of a run and to be fair have a MUCH better fanbase. But it is interesting nevertheless. Oh and that was real cute the one poster who attempted to equate the MVC to the SEC. Haha.

Illinois is not included, but his academic year in residence as an Ag should qualify him as a TX resident. Should being the operative word there.

Nice that some of you are in the know about all this NCAA technicality gobbletigoop. Nice tries at interpretations.
