dirk nowitzki is a spot up shooting "role player", especially now, and i'd argue has always been ...
Traditionally, a role player is a guy who can do one or two specific offensive tasks and that's it. Basically, if that player gets the ball, you know exactly what he's going to do before he does it. They absolutely aren't players that can "create" with the ball. Bruce Bowen was a role player. He could shoot the three well and would punish you if you left him open, but that was it. If he put the ball on the court, you knew something had gone wrong
Saying that Dirk has always been a spot up shooting role player is a not-so-awesome analysis of what Dirk brought to the table in his prime. In his hay-day he was one of the most versatile in the history of the game. He could post up, shoot from 3, face up and shoot, face up and drive, draw fouls and then hit FTs at a 90% clip... And he did all this at 7' tall. The dude was an unholy terror on offense because he did so many things so well. That is not at all the definition of role player anyone else uses.
