this is correct in theory, but no way we would match that money/buyout. Also, the rumor was Byrne squashed it.

Byrne and the big cigar that were going to ok the transaction got cold feet. Forward thinking chickens and we are what we are.

Buzz only makes 1.8 and the "buyout" is nowhere near as huge as Texas A&M wants us to think.

we understand you want a&m to care more about basketball, but it's not going to happen...unless you know someone with a truck load of money that is willing to donate it to the basketball program.

The athletic department has provided me a perfect example here of People Talk, and just can't help themselves (it's simply human nature, and how this stuff gets out).

And another fine example of how this story got out in the first place of "postseason or else."

Following the blog post that starts this thread we had what was supposed to be a very private conversation between three of us (won't say exactly who, but two from the athletic dept.) with give and take and so forth, and also with "them" digging to try and tab my source (good luck with that).

There was no "admonishment" but apparently someone has run their mouth (again!) -- in perhaps bragging about "putting me in place" or something of that sort? -- and the result is Jorts posting his "knowledge" on this board (just can't help himself, in projecting himself as an "insider" because he's buds with a couple of staff members).

In doing so, he's only added to this "water is wet, and the sky is blue" story about expectations this season for the current staff.

Maybe someday they'll learn to just keep their mouths shut, but I doubt it. Human nature doesn't really allow for that.

One more thing, too: I don't know Billy Kennedy that well. But from what I do know of him, I'd put him right up close to baseball's Mark Johnson as among the finest men I've met in coaching.

That makes him easy to root for for just about anyone, but the wins and losses are what matter most in this big business (for right or wrong, but just the truth). take care, bz.

Thank you so much for all of your years of hard work covering the Ags. One of my complaints of living in Aggieland is the lack of objective reporting available to us. There are too many people who shuffle between the university, local AM sports radio, and Texags (which is kind of taking over local AM sports radio). I'd rather have more journalists and fewer homers/insiders.

Along those lines, Brent, if we continue to struggle offensively next baseball season, I would appreciate hearing questions and answers from Rob Childress and/or Andy Sawyers. Not intended to be a baseball hijack on the basketball board, but I've been frustrated the past two seasons as RC seems to completely remove himself from the discussion when our offense is struggling.

Coaches are extremely well paid to win. They are not paid to be nice guys, look good, etc. They are paid to win, pure and simple.

BK has been made multi-millionaire doing what he loves. It doesn't get better than that. While I empathize with the bitter cruelty of his disease, unfortunately we have to segregate the job from the man. His job is to win. I can only hope that he also wins his personal battle with Parkinson's. But to keep the job, he must win meaningful games and move the program forward which, at this juncture, translates to post-season play.

Maybe I like jorts because he's a loudmouth jackass like myself or maybe I just love his passion for A&M. But don't take his absence from the board for a day or so as anything significant. The man does have a career and a family to tend to. I imagine he'll be along in the next 24 hours or so to post again.

Absolutely agree Junkhead, sometimes we forget we all have lives to live outside of the laptop.

Hopefully everybody will be able to move on soon from debating that short article by BZ and instead enjoy watching the team play their first game this Friday. Will be very interesting to watch and can't wait to see this new team in action again to get another look at them.

I didn't read all the responses, but there's a lot of argument over what I would think everyone involved already knows: if this team looks anything like the last two it's the last season for this staff.

I tuned him out in January of last season.

A lively discussion before the first game. Good. BZ, keep reporting anything that you think Aggie fans would like to read, good or bad. I've witnessed several times before how hard it is on the media if they are critical of a local team or coaching staff. I've seen writers have to move on when they are completely shut out by those inside programs. The good ones survive and others move on, usually for the best of all parties. Keep bringing the news, whatever that may be.

i have zero problem with brent and exchanged a nice pm with him recently. he's a good man and reporter IMO.

this story upset me because (a) I don't believe it (agree to disagree) and (b) the timing (which Brent says simply coincides with the beginning of the season and not signing day...and I have no reason to doubt him over that).

So the story was told. It's out there. Believe it or not. Hope we get our recruits all signed up and hope we BTHO Buffalo.
