I am pretty new to cigars. Truth is I'm brand new. I recently tried a punch Diablo and thought it was fantastic! Slow burn, ash held together nicely (don't know if that's good but I liked that) very good taste. Very pleasant experience.
I would like to fry other cigars like this. Any recommendations?

Yeah. Start at the beginning of this thread . It's full of them.

Really? I did read 13-18. I saw a total of ZERO that referenced punch Diablo. I guess you smoke one cigar, you smoked em all.
Carry on.

Via Pg 1 of this thread.

Very similar, and I like it a bit more actually than the Punch Diablo.

I get that you think I was blowing you off with a "read the thread" post, but you have to understand, your qualifications you listed for why you liked the stick was that it "burned slow", held together and tasted good. Pretty much every stick mentioned on this thread is all those things, as are pretty much any stick over $5 at the store and some even less than that.

No, it's not "you smoked one, you smoked them all" but the amount of options in cigars is almost like wine. If you've dabbled in wine you know that there are way too many options to ask , "what is a good wine that has a nice dry finish?" and expect to get a small list of wines when asking several different people.

If you are just getting into stogies, your best bet is to try as many different sticks as you can, and you are probably safer going with recommendations like any of the ones posted on this thread through the years. Once you have tried enough, then you can start getting to what your preferences are in tasting notes, like with wine.

Do you like darker/stronger vs milder/lighter? Do you like more earthy notes or sweet notes? Do you like big changing dynamics as you go through the blends of the stick? Do you like narrower sticks or wider ones (their experiences go beyond just looks)?

When you know those, you can get narrower results.

100% this. I will add that you may be able to get a head start based on your taste in other things. Do you generally like dark beers and sweet bourbon? Darker cigars may be for you. Lean toward IPAs for beer and spicy bourbon? You can find those profiles in cigars too.

Go to a good brick and mortar store. Tell them what you've had that you liked, tell them what you like to drink, and tell them how interested you are in trying anything once if it's quality. You'll figure out pretty quickly what you like and don't.

As someone who just got into cigars, I'd start with this Rocky Patel. https://www.rockypatel.com/cigar/vintage-1999/

I tend to prefer Connecticut, but I'm starting to venture into Maduros.

Like others have said, you have to try a bunch to find what you like, kind of like finding your perfect glass of Scotch, Bourbon, or red wine.

As a guy also new into cigars, and haven't yet posted here, I concur with the above, try as many as you can, I've never tried Punch Diablo, but what one person thinks is similar will be completely different to someone else. Someone just referenced, Cao V660 Carb, and I have no idea if that's close or not but that's been a huge hit with me.

I've followed the advice of all the other posters in this thread and just try what I've commonly seen posted and haven't been disappointed yet. This is a solid thread with a TON of great advice. Start on page 1 and work your way through.
