Ordered a little bit of everything. All the meats were smoked to perfection. The lean brisket might be even better than the moist. It's impressive. He's perfected that meat.

Once waited 2 hours in line at Hot Doug's in Chicago for sausages and duck fat French fries. Well worth it.
Foie gras dog was an incredible thing.

This thread reads like any other about people who wait in line for a limited good. You guys should get into the rare beer game.

I'm planning to wait in line like an idiot for bbq the Friday before the bama game. Really looking forward to the experience and trying some Franklins.

I'll be back in line on June 5th and can't wait. The flavor profile is very simple, but it really boils down to meat quality and the perfection of the cook which yields ideal moisture content, texture and smoke taste. At Franklins at least line position and cutting matters little, you give your estimated total and 1 person can order 1lb or 100lb pounds.
I've never seen anyone get angry at Franklins over line positioning however I did see it at MCM.

Read my post again and see the bolded part. No one is waiting for hours thinking they will get food and then not getting fed...as long as everyone gives accurate estimates when they come by asking how much you plan to order (as I said). The staff will warn you if you are in a part of the line that may not get your desired meat.

List of things you can accomplish in the same amount of time it takes to get BBQ at Franklin's:

Eat a breakfast taco and knockout multiple cups of coffee
Take a dump while catching up on TexAgs for 30 minutes (or until your legs go numb)
Reorganize all your hunting gear for the 18th time this year
Listen to your wife/fianc/gf talk for 45 minutes while you're zoned out and nodding acting like you are paying attention and care (will get you lucky later that day)
Crack a beer for surviving that
Start your pit and season some thawed deer meat from last year (two beer process)
Mow your neglected lawn while knocking a few more out(weedeating is for overachievers)
Throw your deer meat on the pit plus a rack of babyback ribs you have hidden in the fridge and almost forgot about (at least a three beer process)
Watch the beginning of the 11am SEC football game on national TV while drinking a handful of beers
Remember the meat on the pit while they show random tailgates after the first quarter, run outside, pull it off and tell everyone at the house you just grilled the best meal you've done to date (deserving of a beer)
Knock out some charred meat and a few more beers while watching the end of the game


All easily done in the same amount of time as sitting in a line...

You could make that same list of thing to do instead of going to sit in a deer blind...

Not that I "care so much", just that I had nothing else to do to waste my time. Besides, I thought the point of the line was to be social and play dominos and meet new people. You read a book? Introverted, huh?

Even though that has zero relevance to this thread, yea, that's how I prefer to hunt as do the majority of hunters without children. Pretty sure that has more to do with giving myself the best chance at a deer instead of being introverted. I'm actually quite the opposite. And, as mentioned numerous times in this thread, I thought the point of Franklin's was 4 hours of socializing before 20 minutes of eating? Not 4 hours of Harry Potter.

The point of going to Franklins is to eat excellent BBQ made by a guy who has perfected his craft.

I'd rather sit downtown than in the middle of nowhere any day. And my list of things I got done in the ~3.5 hours while waiting included meeting new people and then pulling out the laptop and catching up on some work. Quite a lovely morning. No way giddings cracks half of his list of lofty goals in that time.

The girls in line behind us #5-#10 were celebrating one of their 22nd birthdays. They all ordered sandwiches. 3 got chopped beef.

Aaron stops her at the register and said "You're ordering chopped beef for your birthday?" and loaded them up with brisket on his dime.

So if I took my laptop and worked in line I won't look like a weirdo or is that pretty common?

If I have a half day to waste, I'm hitting the coast with a fishing rod or the golf course or something. I can think of about a million better places to hang out and drink beer than outdoors during rush hour, a block off I35, with a bunch of hipsters.

I think some of you would talk up 5 hours of prison sex with a guy named Bubba if it meant you could drink beer during "the event" and get a brisket from Franklin at the end.

It's common. Tons of people watching Netflix on various devices.

Your other options for amusement: Games, alcohol, books.
