I've never tried Salt & Pepper. The recipe I use was Grandfather's only thing different is he used what ever pickle juice he had on hand, I prefer Clauseen.

Now I can tell you Wayne Mueller at Louie Mueller only uses Salt & Peper cause I've seen him mix it up and their Brisket is damn good.

So really what a guy likes. I've had Brisket where guys add paprika and chili powder on top of Salt, Pepper, Garlic powder, Onion Powder and other stuff and taste real good and they do good on the BBQ circuit. Everybody I cook for including the BBQ circuit I've had good luck with my Rub.

I personally get some pretty darn good results with only Salt and Pepper.
So do I. It's all I ever use now.

Yeah. I am a salt and pepper convert since watching Franklin. Whether its what he uses or not its might by brisket better and simpler.

That article lacks any basic concept of journalism...if you can even get the website to pull up. His rant on libtards (which I hate as much as the next guy) should give you a clue as to his validity of a "journalist." If he was really quoting Franklin (instead of pulling up 3 month old articles to complain about), he'd find out the truth. But since Franklin is out of the country and didn't provide a quote to that article, I'll briefly share with you what he told me.

He said that one or two places basically ignored the fact that their smoke would interfere with residential communities when they moved the restaurants to those locations. He said it is just a few offenders that knew better so the council may have to act on a case by case basis. The two spots he talked about were downhill from these communities so the smoke rose right into backyards. His stacks are well above, and away from, any home. That was part of the reason why he bought where he did.

Fwiw, the council voted down those measures a few weeks ago but will revisit the problems by the "real offenders" in the next week or so.

Yea, after a little more research it looks like it was voted down in May, not sure why a story about it came out yesterday. Wonder if it has something to do with this

Don't know. San Francisco either voted on or passed a no grill (smoker, pit, etc) ban a few months ago. ****ing idiots.

Terry Blacks and La BBQ the offenders we're talking about? La BBQ is moving, so that situation will resolve itself.

He wouldn't say who the offenders were. But I bet it's those two. And yes, those two are trying to remedy the situation.

I believe La BBQ has already moved down on Caesar Chavez

Hey I've got an idea. I'm gonna go pay $300/sqft to live in the heart of Austin so I can walk to coffee shops and restaurants and be all urban, and then proceed to sue every restaurant for smoke and smells. /sarcasm

How backwards can this friggin city be? I lived in Austin for 14 years and so glad I moved to Hays county. The plastic bag ban was when crazy started to take over, and now with people suing over smoke from BBQ restaurants and lack of handicap accessibility at food trailers, it has gotten absurd.

300 a square foot would be a steal

Jesus Christ suing over the smell of a BBQ joint? People suck. I think I might pay extra to live next to one just so I could smell it every day. But I guess I'm just a poor old Texas boy and don't know any better.

You might change your mind if your entire house smelled like bbq smoke. That was one of the complaints from a landowner: they couldn't open their windows because it made the inside of their house smell like bbq. Due to the elevation and topography, the smoke would end up in his house. And they were there first. I'm guessing the novelty wore off pretty quick.

Oh hell I understand the nuisance of it. I'm just thinking of the less extreme situations. I certainly wouldn't want my house smelling like Chilifest 24/7.

Latest word out of Austin: a city ordinance for "cat calling" to protect the chicks running around the hike and bike trail.

Seriously it's like every week there's something new.

I wouldn't like my house smelling like bbq 24/7, but I also wouldn't want it smelling like i35 either, or any of the other pollution that is inherent when you decide to live downtown--which is why I don't live there!

If they were there first, even better--that means they can make a killing on the return and move somewhere that has an hoa and restrictions against commercial development. But still, if you move downtown and live in an area with no zoning, what do you expect--unless I'm missing something?

You are missing something. Both the residential area and commercial areas are zoned. The problem is elevation. The houses sit above Black's restaurant on a small bluff. When the smoke comes out of the stacks, it was below the grade of the ground for the houses. As such, the smoke stayed at roughly ground level, and got into people's houses before it could dissipate (This is why most other places don't have problems with smoke; it's just elevation).
But, leave it to the Austin City Council to attack what is a surgical procedure (the smoke problem was impacting roughly three restaurants) with an axe. That's why everyone is opposed to the ordinance. It puts unnecessary restrictions where they aren't needed.
