I tend to stick to items with high trade value and extreme allocation. Just tastes better.

Big Sag fan! Haven't tried anything of theirs I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Most of their finished stuff is a little pricier but can't say they are necessarily overpriced.

Just picked up a 1.75L of Buffalo Trace from my local place.

I need to record a drop on day. As soon as that email goes out there are 20-30 people hauling ass to the store nearest to them for every store in the state. It is literally at the point that if you cant make it in under 5 minutes you may as well give up and people have no idea what they will even have to opportunity to buy.

I will say that it is probably the most well behaved stampede that i have seen.

Yikes. I wasn't in the bourbon scene while I was stationed in North Carolina. But everything was ABC Liqour stores ran by the state.

Looking at the NC site it seems they may be the worst of both worlds. From what i can tell it appears the ABC is basically divided up and run at the county level. Some have an online inventory, others dont i cant really tell. Im guessing the rural places get ****ed and the cities are a pain to find anything.

VA being having 1 warehouse for the entire state helps us get an allocation that is probably more than what we deserve. The random drops, both what and when being random, came about because there was a person at the warehouse who was running a facebook group on deliveries to various stores. Im fortunate that i live and work right by a couple of stores and can just go there whenever there is a drop. Overall it not that bad of a system, at least compared to when i was in CA and only got things because i knew a guy at BevMo. I think a lot of folks on this thread would be happy if Total Wine or Specs were to copy it.

Liquor stores in Asheville when I visited my sister made it a hard NO on ever moving there. I couldn't even get bitters or sweet vermouth.
