I still can't get over the weller 12 craze. It's insanity. I saw a bottle in a glass case today for $199! Double the price they had for ECBP and Stag
Saw Blanton's for $199. People are stupid. I've been drinking a lot more craft beer and rum lately.

If you go to The Republic play the mash madness. They've basically styled it as a March Madness tournament for whiskey. They'll give you two different whiskeys (one high end, one middle in a 3/4 oz pour) in a blind taste test.

After you make your selection they'll reveal the two you tried. Pretty cool way to see if you really like things or just like the name on the bottle.

Hancocks won in 2018. I don't think that was the outcome they expected.

Anyone tried little book chapter 3? Saw it today and passed at $130 but if I see it cheaper I would grab it pending general opinion.

I'm looking at going on my second distillery vacation next summer. I went to Buffalo Trace, Woodford, Maker's and Jack Daniel's in July. Thinking Four Roses and Willett this time around and a couple others. Any suggestions?

Tasting tour at heaven hill was solid, you get to try some premium stuff actually. I believe when I did it we tried William heaven hill, EC 23 year and HHSS. Tasting at four roses was also good, Got to try some private select recipes and I asked afterward about a few other recipes and they let me try them, all of which are available for purchase in the gift shop.

We are not collectors - we actually open & enjoy and try to stock up on some favorites when we see them, but, wow! GTS, Blantons & Weller 12 selling for that high?!?!?

Willet is good. We have not been back since they have finished the bed and breakfast. It is small and fairly quick, but the guides were usually good. The Bardstown tour is good as well if you are a 1792 fan. Neither will knock your socks off, but can get them both in a day.

We just did the tasting at Wild Turkey tasting. Their tasting room has a great view of the river.

Favorites were Woodford and Makers.

I tried it tonight. Got it at total wine for $90 I think. Has some heat and spice to it, but very enjoyable. I don't think I'd buy a second bottle, but I'm glad I got this one.

Just tried Michter's 10 year.....yikes! $150 for sourced bourbon. Tastes like Windex smells with a hint of regret and dirty gym socks.

Popped the cork on some Elmer T Lee 100 year anniversary addition, EHT Single Barrel and Bookers 2019 batch 3. Had some company from out of town who is a bourbon enthusiast too to share in the experience. Bourbon is so much better sharing with others. It was a good night.

Castle & Key is newly renovated and open; was the old Taylor distillery, so great history. Bulleit opened a new one in Shelbyville. I have yet to visit either, but my daughter has worked catered events at both and says they are really interesting venues. Both make some excellent products. Castle & Key have yet to release a bourbon, but their gin is excellent. Not sure when their first bourbon will be released. At least a couple more years.

Agree. We have some neighbors that we share with. We buy something, they buy something & we do small tastings. 6 of us are regulars & add the various grown up kids when they come home and it's really nice. Next up from us is that Stagg that Mrs. Schwack just scored. Gonna be a good NYE!

edit: she also lucked into a couple bottles of Weller 12 & the Bookers Country Ham & Beaten Biscuit!

I've got either a 2013 or 2014 PVW20 if you're interested in that. I'd have to check the bunker to confirm which year.

I've been lurking on this thread for a long time and wanted to thank all the contributors over the years. While I haven't ever posted it has been a really good reference for helping me get into the bourbon game and also finding what I enjoy to drink. (I think Weller 12 has been my favorite so far).

In no way am I attempting to brag but am happy that after reading advice from others on this thread I have been able to get my hands on some great drinks for me and my buddies. In doing so I got to know a few of my local store owners and even got my hands on a 12 year bottle of Van Winkle yesterday at MSRP that I hope to drink at some special occasions and one day with my son and daughter at special moments in their lives. Merry Christmas to all and a raised glass to each of you and good hunting for the next year!

God Bless!

Mrs. MW03 is becoming quite the hunter. She has more luck getting the nerds behind the counter to open up than I do. Recently, she came home with a Bookers Country Ham, and then she surprised me with a Whistle Pig 15 Rye.

Picked up a bottle of Willet today. Been a while since I had it, and was way cheaper than I expected. Did they lower the age statement?

Might have been discussed on here before, but this was an interesting documentary. It's "Neat - The Story of Bourbon". Watched it last night with a big cube & nice pour.

So what's the deal with the SAOS latest 13 single barrel select?

Found a few of them last night and then read about them got worried I bought crap.

Opened one and it's great stuff.

Those SAOS used to be MGP sourced; now they're Dickel. The market holds MGP > Dickel. Also - the Dickel BiB is the same age and half the price... (if you can find it - stupid awards...)

I know lol. I did an experiment where I checked for Dickel BiB right after they announced that. It was collecting dust everywhere but magically disappeared off shelves. We're sheeple in the whiskey community.
