Booker's Rye is the truth. I drank one bottle of mine. Have two more bottles I was fortunate to purchase at retail and bunker away. It might become my next bottle for special event type pours after I finish off my pvw 15. I've just been reluctant to open one since the secondary price on it has been ridiculous. Might just have to sell them. Getting more difficult to justify to myself drinking these bottles. Are they really THAT much better than a more reasonably priced but still very good bourbon that I also enjoy very much? Maybe I'm losing my bourbon passion but I'm drifting more towards saying I'd rather have the money and do something fun with it.

As much as I liked it, I'd have a hard time not flipping bottles if I had them. You could get two THH's for each Booker's.

If you're in Dallas I would call around to the box stores to see if you can find it the easy way, and then go to Pogos at Inwood Village to see if they can get it for you.

I'm in Houston now! It wouldn't be huge to be able to find it but I think I probably should have started this search a while ago.

If you can't find it locally, there is a store near me in CA that has it in stock. I believe they ship to Texas and the price seems pretty fair.

It's Friday so I'll share. Went to my wife's old firm's party tonight and enjoyed several Blanton's. Came home and had a Michter's SmB and it was not nearly as good. Smokey and rough in comparison. Like jumping from W12 to Jack. That's all. Carrry on.

West side near the loop, but I can drive if needed. Just to be clear, I don't have anything yet. I need to go back and either tell him I want it or not, and probably won't be able to do that until tomorrow. If someone wants it, I will get it if it's still there and not ask for a penny more than what the guy wants. But if someone also has something decent they wouldn't mind getting rid of at a small/reasonable markup or list price I'd be interested.

I'm still relatively new to the higher end stuff so this thread has been great.

Big thank you to LPHA for helping a fellow Ag out with a GTS. He picked it up yesterday and handed it over to me today. It was great meeting you and thank you again for going out of your way to help me out!

VW12 I believe went first followed by WLW and GTS and then Handy. May wait a bit more and see.

Anyone go to the NASA Liquor event yesterday? Wondering how much of a cluster it was. I couldn't bring myself to do much hunting this year. Did get a GTS from a shop close to the house so I'll call it successful. The nasa list of potential bottles was unreal.

Did both twin locations have a raffle?

The one on University didn't have THH. It went WLW, Lot B, GTS, PHC

Went pretty smooth. They made many improvements over last year. Moved it out back, had cocktails and breakfast if you wanted, rep there handing out tiny bottle of booze.

Only issue I saw was that it appeared that once you got picked your odds increased to be called again, Multiple people got called 3,4 even 5 times.

I'm sure they put in the legwork to get multiple entries, but it sure did seem odd to me.

Still a great job done by NASA and there was a bunch of really nice bottles up for grabs. Hoping next year they can do some more tuning and make for an even better raffle.

The entry format being based on how many NASA barrel picks you consumed in certain bars over the contest period lent itself to a few people having the bulk of the entries. I didn't have a chance, because most of my weekday bar drinking is with coworkers, and none of our usual bars were part of the game.

Not following the one on university? You mean Holleman, in same center as Champions?

Anyways I may jave been wrong on order who got what I was way in back just listening for my number. When someone picked, they put ot under arm like a football. I left after that.

Have you ever been to their main store in Austin. I think they say store 6. I would like to check their selection there in general. I think one on Hancock is what I am talking about. I know think theyhave built a new one that may be larger. Folks here say I should check it out sometime.

Pro tip: MWND is very tasty. Secondary isn't ridiculous either if you can't find it local .... and most of us can't. Enjoying a nice pour of it tonight while watching Springsteen on Broadway on Netflix. Highly recommend this too if you enjoy good storytelling and how it blends into his songwriting and autobiographical insights into humanity. Almost a perfect night.

So HBS which is really the marketing pool for the Houston Whiskey Social and whatever radio program is associated, has.now decided all the barrel picks they do, >30, will now add $5-10 to benefit their charity of choice. Which is the Wounded Warrior Project. I already donate to this on behalf of my wife's step father. The specific charity isn't my issue.

Not quite sure how I feel about using the leverage of the "society" which doesn't say it has a mission statement for charity. I do love store picks, don't feel I want to pay more for a goal of someone else. Yadda yadda don't buy if you don't want.

Those dudes put a lot of time and money into picks they aren't profiting from and they all seem ridiculously well priced. (Most recent 1792 FP was 39.99 I think?) if they decide that they want to do that power to em. Lots of barrels and products wouldn't come to Houston without em.

Your last sentence summed up what my first point was going to be.

I just see cost escalation. Doesn't matter why.
Other stores will match prices even if not going to charity.

Decided to be less snarky.

I don't really see how you can think 200 x 30 barrels a year, that are store picks are going to inflate costs anywhere else. Store picks are already typically higher and adding 5 dollars to the less expensive and 10 to the more expensive picks are going to be in line with retail at most stores outside of TW or Specs based on how HBS has been pricing anyway.
