Rare Breed is pretty much on every shelf in Houston. The Rye is at most of the larger. Def best easy to come by Rye. The KC Cask Rye is also Great and not totally rare.

I was thinking Blantons Gold.
Also thought about going with 2 bottles.

I'd go with 2 bottles unless he already has an extensive selection. Those flavors you describe are what I look for in bourbon. With that in mind, I'd try and find the following:

Belle Meade Reserve
Noah's Mill
4 Roses Small Batch Select (not just the Small Batch)

At MSRP, you'd be around $200 before tax for all three. And you'd be setting someone up with a very solid bar!

Same. The batches of ECBP ive had are fantastic and I like higher proof.

For EHT I prefer SmB more than the one SiB I have.

I keep circling back to Weller 12 thinking there has to be something I enjoy more and that I am missing. For the MSRP value its great but I can't understand the secondary value and hype. I prefer Weller antique to 12.

I was surprised at how much I liked it. Not a fan of much of their line besides the full proof. If you can get one at retail definitely worth picking up. Don't break the bank over it.

This Jefferson's Ocean Cask Strength Voyage #7 is a better tasting one-note than the similar tasting Blantons one-note. Important to know? Not really. Just tryin to pass along a little memo to the newbs to not fall prey to the BT hype.
