ECBP has become my litmus test for a good bourbon bar. If they really know their stuff, they'll have ECBP, and usually at a good price. If they're just wanting to cash in on the mania for the "big name bottles" the menu will often be full of Wellers, Stagg's, and Van Winkles, without an ECBP in sight.

Bars are s hit or miss.

I passed on the ECBP for Noah Mills because that ECBP aint easy to find. I cant hunt all the time so if I really like something I drink it as slow as possible.

Sux for people there b/c he said the shops rarely see anything good bc the restaurants get everything from the distributors.

Got to try the KY Owl Rye finally. It's very, very good. If you can get it at retail, it's still a stretch on value, but it's better than just about everything produced in the past few years with the exception of Booker's Rye. It reminds me of a stronger, slightly more aged EHT Rye. Several guys are guessing that it's a Barton source, but I get more Buffalo Trace on what I tasted. Could be a blend even. Regardless, it's a fine rye. Very spicy and complex. I'm hearing it's a 95/5 mashbill, which explains the spice.

95/5 is LDI's signature rye mashbill.

It's not LDI. Doesn't taste like LDI, and it's labeled KY straight rye, distilled in KY. That really narrows down who could have made it. I know it's not BF or WT or Beam based on the flavors.

Anyone know how close a last year's Rip Van Winkle 10 would trade to this year's Stagg or WLW? Will probably need to add some cash or another bottle but always wanted to try both and want to test the waters. Thoughts?

Just bought the McKenna myself for $29, haven't tried it yet.

What's not to like about it?

It came off strong to me, expected it to be a bit smoother. But ryes have always been a bit hit or miss for me, some I really enjoy and some just aren't for me.

Did a blind tasting tonight. EC12, W12, Blanton's. Order the wife and I preferred was EC12, Blanton's, W12. Kinda surprised to see W12 as a far 3rd.

Still not a bad bourbon but not anywhere close to paying g secondary for.

True. I buy a ton of if every time into hots town and trade it on secondary. It's hilarious what I can and get for it

I do it from my office and reuse what others used to ship mine. It's kind of fun having awesome bourbons show up at the office all week.

Is that next on the list of bourbons that you can't find? I see that everywhere in DFW.
I don't see a lot of it in Houston.

Now that is a good idea. Between those 3 I'd rank EC12 the clear leader, and I don't understand why W12 is so popular at all. I don't chase anything, but if I could get something interesting for a couple bottles of W12 I would do that in a heartbeat.

Is EC12 available again? I thought they dropped the age statement. That was the best value in bourbon IMO.

EC12 is gone. I picked up enough to last several years.

May need to start trading my W12 out. Need more ETL and RHF.

Me too.

I'll give a 1.75 W12 for either.

I've traded a 750 of W12. for RHF several times. I trade the 1L for ECBP, EHTBP, and SFTB. It's bizarre. I've never traded a 1.75 but it goes on secondary for $200-225. I'm holding most of mine now because the market is flooded with W12 in the secondary groups. I intend to trade for EHT4G once people start posting ISOs for W12
