Costco in Houston still had some 1792 store picks left last week when I was there. Just an FYI.

Unfortunate....when they offered Pot Still in single barrel, it was great.

Don't ever cry over anything 1792. God knows they're making more of it. Except for an occasional decent barrel pick (like mine this year), it truly can be drain pour.

Plus that Costco vodka is good stuff.

Total Wine in Cinco Ranch opened today. They've got SAOS Single Barrel 10, SA Contradiction, OF 1870, 1897, and 1920, and a Whistlepig 10 store pick. That's the only notable stuff I see. Empty spot for Rebel Yell 10, and no Blanton's on day 1.

First barrel age went bad. Tell me what's wrong.

Bought a 1 liter char #3 oak barrel. Filled it with hot water. Let it sit a few days. Rotated it every day. Poured out. Repeated a few more times until 8 or 9 days went by.



Filled it with Weller SR. Rotated it every few days. Aged it just under 3 months.

It tastes horrible, all oak and nothing else. Where did I screw up?

First time you use a barrel the flavor is SUPER oaky. I was told only go 2 weeks the first time otherwise it is beyond overbearing. You didn't do anything wrong other than just age longer than needed for the first go round. My first batch, I did some cheap moonshine for 2 weeks. Went from clear to dark and was all oak. Next time I did Larceny for a month or month and a half. Better. Third time I did Bernheim for 6 months and it was great. Also have done Old Granddad 114 for 3 months, and currently have regular Rebel Yell in that I plan on doing for 6 months or so. You're fine. Next batch will be better. Third you will be all set

Fell asleep last night. Just remembered. I checked my bunker and indeed I have a front of the bottle age stated EC12 I would be willing to part with. 750 ml. From 2013 if I read the bottom of the bottle right. Even has the tag with it. Lemme know if you want it and we can work out the rest. I know you aren't a flipper so you can have it at my cost. Still has the $29.99 sticker on it.

If anyone finds an Elmer T Lee for retail, I'll pay cost + shipping. I've been passively looking for it for a couple of years and still haven't seen one on a shelf. Located in San Antonio.
