I believe it's just ECBP that's a store specific pick. Good, but plenty of other options in that price point and not sure it's $30 better than standard ECBP

Thoughts on Elijah Craig single barrel private reserve for $95?

Depending on proof I would probably buy. I picked up one at a BevMo in AZ a few years ago that was 137.6 proof and is in my top 5 of bourbons of all times.

Agree. The average bottle i would probably pass on but if there was one that was either really old or was an especially high proof, i might take a flier.

I'd recommend the Barrell proof EC's. Come out 3 times a year.

They dropped a whole bunch at the Specs Christmas drop in the HTX area. But I doubt you'll see one at MSRP unless it's an email or raffle. All said, I'm sure you'd have success trading or buying on secondary if you're in that area. If not, there's a lot of groups in DFW, ATX, and SAT. Even locally here in CSTAT.

Happy FRYEday the 13th everyone.
I've definitely upped my Rye game so far this year.
Which ones would you choose from each pair below?
Interested to hear your opinions.

Where on Earth did you find a EC Barrel Proof Rye? Maybe the bottle I've wanted to get my hands on the most since it came out.

Added it for a similar age statement Beam product to compare to the Overholt.

Grabbed the last bottle at Longhorn Liquor in Beaumont the weekend of the Whiskey Fest, which I highly recommend everyone attend. Much better than the Whiskey Socials I've attended in Houston.

I haven't tried some of the others, but I'm a huge fan of the Old Overholt and think it's massively underrated. I have the 10, 11, and 12 year expressions. The 11 isn't quite as good as the other two in my opinion, but I would put the 10 and 12 year against many other popular and higher priced ryes.

Gotcha, how is that Overholt? Not a big rye drinker but I do like Beam products.

I got Old Fitz 7, midwinter night's dram, and Weller antique 107 in the past couple weeks! MWND is amazing!!!! I love great ryes and this is top notch. Old fitz is really good too. The weller is just ok to my palate.

Bourbon lovers rye. Around 51% rye in the mashbill so still has a lot of bourbon notes, and some of that nutty quality that I love in higher aged Beam.

Severely underrated, surprised more people aren't talking about them more. Overholt 12 blows the 10 and 11 out of the water IMO. But as Sweeeeeet Action said it is a bourbon lovers rye.

Have found cases of all three at the Spec's in Bastrop, and have seen the 10 and 11 pretty regularly in Houston.

MWND are solid ryes for sure. If you can find a High West Prisoner's Share it kicks it up a notch.

I have a Willett Family Estate 8-Year Single Barrell Rye that I've been sitting on that I might have to crack open with all of this rye talk. I hold Willett Family Estate Ryes (not 4 years lol) in extremely high regard.

I always see the 11yr Overholt at Specs. I may have to give it a try.

My girlfriend tried a 13 year Green Top at the Whiskey Fest at one of the tables. Of course she fell in love with it and demanded I find a bottle.

The project X rye from specs Christmas pick is quite good.

Agreed to others. MWND is my favorite bottle these days

Sooo...I have enough 'points' built up at a mom and pop store to have the 'privilege' to buy a bottle of plain ol Blanton's for $100 instead of $250 with no points. I haven't had it in 6+ years but used to like it way back when. My bourbon preferences have changed a good bit over that time though.

There is nothing else currently on their points list that is realistic for me to get to that I am interested in. Therefore, let's consider the points worth nothing other than the discount on Blanton's.

I passed for now and walked out with a bottle of ECBP.

1. Is $100 a decent price? There's no way I would pay $250... I think I remember it being $60 a long time ago.
2. Is it just going to be a $100 bottle of disappointment? I know only I can really answer that but I'm interested in thoughts from those may have been in a similar boat recently.

I would not shop at a store that puts you through that much of a ringer to get a bottle of blantons for 100 bucks. You can find that sitting around on shelves at some stores around Houston for that price

Head over to the bourbon/whiskey trading thread. I'm pretty sure you can easily find someone selling Blantons for ~$100, and you'll save the points.

Edit to add, I think price point can be unique to the buyer. $100 isn't outrageous for Blanton's. I wouldn't buy it for that but that's a personal valuation. There are plenty who would.

If any bottle has opinions...it is Blanton's.
It is low proof, decent juice. I keep some for friends who are impressed and don't know bourbon. I like it, but not in my top bottles at all. Better than average for me.
$100 isn't terrible nowadays.

Bought a bottle at WB (Costco). It was $95 plus tax. Pretty close to $100.

I had quite a bit of it, but was running out as it's a favorite at our family get togethers.

Blanton's is basically a shelf sitter these days, at least around Corpus. Specs has it out and even liquid town has it sitting by itself and not in a bundle. No reason to be playing any games to get it.

MSRP is around that $100 mark. Is it worth it, not to me as there are plenty of other bottles id rather have at that price or just pay 25 more for Stagg, but it wouldn't be the worst purchase.

I would pass. You can likely find it for the same price or cheaper at a Spec's or TW. Unless your points expire, save them and build them up for something a few years down the road (even if that takes a while and seems unattainable now).
