Thanks for all the feedback!

This store generally has stuff that I don't find at Total Wine or Spec's and has some interesting store picks from time to time so I'll keep shopping there but probably won't play the points game.

The last place I saw Blanton's for sale was a random grocery store in Angel Fire, NM in 2023. Locked away behind glass for $220. If it has become a shelf sitter, I've missed out in the DFW area.

Following up on this…my wife decided the Blanton's would make a good Valentine's present so we went together and used the points and ended up getting the bottle for $80 instead of $100.

I also was able to point out a few other bottles that would make good future gifts (pictures were taken).

And it wasn't a disappointment! Still good…it was definitely worth the $80 for me for the combined nostalgia/taste factors.

I have a similar type bottle from Neeley Family Distillery. One of the first batches they laid down - only aged 16 months! I actually like it. Way more character than I would have expected for something that young. But with bottles like this, I think the real fun is comparing it to some of their newer batches to see how the expression has matured and progressed over the years.

Distillery only releases annoy me. Whatever you are releasing is already going to be very limited in quantity, then on top of that you are further limiting the release because you must fly to XXX and "pick up at distillery only". Beyond frustrating.

Manufactured scarcity. It's worked on me while I'm at the distillery. "Can't buy this anywhere else, better pic up a bottle or two."

I've been after an A. Smith Bowman Cask Strength for years, and I cant even enter their lottery because it's "pick up at distillery". Like im flying to VA for a bottle. Absolutely no chance.

The last two batches of that are pretty readily available on numerous secondary pages for a price of around 300-350 bucks or so.

I was going to say you don't have to only get this at distillery. It is initially released there then later makes its way to stores across the country.

I've been going out there since the opened and have a bunch of older bottles. I actually like some of the older younger bottles, it just depends on the vintage (year/season). For example, I have a 2013 open right now that's a fantastic pour. Those old ones varied more because they intentionally batched them fall and spring.

This morning, Total Wine in CS again had ER and Blantons across the aisle from the main bourbon display next to the liters of Coke, along with an empty slot for Weller Antique, which had just run out. Supplies must be increasing.

I miss the days when no one knew how good the Still Austin seasonal BiB releases were and you could find them on the shelf, at least for a few weeks before they'd sell out. They're all so good.
