Wife stood in line with two kids and brought home a surprise! Very good, drinkable, and it changes as it warms up.

Is visiting and hanging out at Red Horn worth it or is just getting beer to go more popular? Why I ask: I've seen a lot of Red Horn beers posted on here but not sure I've heard about their venue at all.

Red Horn is one of my absolute favorite places to grab a beer. I'm probably there once a week. Very industrial feel to it. They also have a nice deck outside. I also have no idea how they brew so much beer in that tiny of a space. Actually grabbed some More better on draft after work today. I like that they have a lot of quality coffee options as well. It's a decent spot to get work done or study as well...

I live about 15 minutes away from Red Horn at the moment and will pick it over the local craft beer bar by my house 9 times out of 10. The high school I'm moving to will actually be less than a mile away. I foresee a lot of trips after work in my future...

They are a coffee and beer shop in the burbs. I think they are worth a few beers, and an espresso anytime you are close by. They do have music sometimes, a good guest tap, and are kid friendly. They lack on food. It has that coffee shop vibe, but with a good tap. What is fun is there is a cigar shop two doors down that is BYOB and they have suggestions for beer from Red Horn and cigar pairings. They are the closest place to get good beer to me and fun place to go for a few beers and coffee. I would drink more beer there, but the kids keep me home. This was their first can release as far as I know. It is one of my favorite places to go and definitely worth a stop.

After work... suuuure. I foresee the occasional off period trip for a beer so you don't murder a kid.

At least that's how it would be if it was me.

Anyone else have oxidation issues with recent batches of Yellow Rose?

Thanks, Dave. I couldn't find anything on their social media sites. I see it on their main website now, but my batch was from one week prior. Clearly the same problem though.

I'm fairly certain they had a recall on some batches in April.

Got chipotlemonger's box in yesterday, lots of good hops. Will be the first I've tried of Southern Grist. And it's been years, so looking forward to trying Lawson's again. It's actually my wife's maiden name, so makes for a cool brewery name/can. Thank you sir!

(fwiw: he wins for the best packing job so far)

Hope you enjoy that Southern Grist. There were a ton of options to choose from but that was personally one of my favorites of theirs available. Got a 4-pack and kept the other 2 here.

On another note, I went to a newer restaurant in Nashville tonight with an insane beer menu. Best list I've ever seen in one place at one time.

While there I got 3 Floyd's Zombie Dust, Burial Beer Co. Weaponry of a Mind's Eye (an oud bruin), and Perennial Abraxas. Hard to beat that stack, but I do think I prefer the extra heat of Prairie Bomb over the Abraxas. Here was the Abraxas though, a beer I've been wanting to try for years it seems:

I could've also been taste bud overloaded by that point from the dinner. It was eclectic and very unique, this main dish was octopus with pork belly over black eyed peas and southern greens.

I'm fairly certain I will be back before I move here shortly for at least something off the beer menu.

Interesting to see that paradox has made it all the way out there but they haven't even tried to move in here in NE right next door. Funny how beer distro works like that.

I'd imagine NE is pretty far down the list of places you'd want to get your beer. Gotta have density.

To be fair this could be a perfect storm of sorts due to the CBC being held in Nashville just last week. There has been a lot around town that we don't normally see, if ever.

ETA: I've seen Paradox in bottles before but never got around to getting a bottle.

Planning to swing by there tomorrow. Looks awesome. My wife, a group of friends, and I randomly befriended the bar manager there a few years ago.

Also hitting up Henrietta Red.

My understanding was that Paradox, with their constantly changing labels, didn't want to have to go through the TABC approval process so often here in Texas.

Will do. We're going for Happy Hour. I find that's usually a good way to try the newer, hyped up restaurants before deciding a full blown dinner.

In beer related news, we went to Mantra in Franklin last night. Good and interesting beers. Nothing was world changing but I appreciated the variety.

Where in CS can I grab some bottles or crowlers to take back to Dallas these days? I'm on kid duty during a graduation, and I'll have time to kill.

Eskimo Hut, Specs, and H-E-B on Texas.

Eskimo Hut has a pretty decent selection of JK bottles. If they have any left, grab some NOLA Brewing Moon Shoes. It's a NEIPA that's pretty good.

Only place in town with crowlers is Blake's Steaks. Not sure what's on draft thought.

When I was in Blake's earlier this week they had Celis, 8th Wonder, and some BWD. Their crowlers seemed on the more expensive side to me as well.

Henrietta Red was awesome. Definitely lived up to the hype and not pretentious. We sat at the bar during happy hour so were able to take advantage of beverage deals and $2 oysters. They offer the full menu at the bar so we did a few of the plates as well.

In beer news, we hit up Bearded Iris last night and Southern Grist this afternoon. The beer at Bearded Iris was very good but we had a really bad bartender who ruined the vibe. He just seemed completely annoyed with everyone for being there and wanting to order beers. Then to top it off, there was a significant mischarge on the bill and you would have thought I asked him for the rights to his first born son. I'm pretty easy going in respect to service expectations but was pretty bummed because the beer was so good. That said, I still highly recommend tracking down their beer - at the brewery or elsewhere.

As a juxtaposition, Southern Grist was awesome. A little out of the way compared to other things but totally worth it. Small but cool set up and I was very impressed with the beers.

Thanks Chipotle and others for the recommendations!

O. We also hit up Kuchina & Keller. That was an awesome beer list. I had a Warpigs NE IPA. Fantastic.

I had a pretty solid week. Got my teaching certification, won a 50k trail race, and got a job back at my old school teaching US History and coaching cross country. So I'll be celebrating a little tonight. Nothing super special, just some KBS and some Everything Rhymes with Orange IPA, but I'll take it.

A little less glamorous... I grew up in Midland, so I'll be at a private school out there. Beer purgatory, but it's close (relatively) to Big Bend Brewery and the National Parks out there, so that's cool.
