Not bad, but a little sweeter than I like. Kind of like a Rodeo Clown flavor.

That'll happen with 10% and higher IPAs. They get sweeter and sweeter to balance out the hops. I think 7-9% is the zone for me.

Had a long day yesterday. Started at Cutwater Spirits for lunch. This is the rebranded Ballast Point distillery. The restaurant is very well designed, but the drinks aren't great.

Then went to Mikkeller SD in the old Alesmith space. Great beers, but cramped space.



The new Alesmith was a couple blocks away, so we stopped in there. Nice space. Still under construction. Lots of food trucks. Really good beers.


Green Flash was next. Didn't take any pictures because it was entirely forgettable. I still can't find a GF beer I like, and the Alpine's they had were all grocery store varieties.

After a few bottles of wine downtown, ended the evening at an outdoor play where Wilson from House was the lead actor. Strange day.

I'm up here in NC. Noda, Birdsong, and Wicked Weed make some damn fine beer.

Speaking of NC, anyone ever been to Fonta Flora, or had any of their beers? Been wanting to try them out for a while.

Texian does a couple of barrel-aged sours. B-52 has a barrel-aged stout.

No Label Perpetual Peace is on shelves right now.

Haven't visited FF but have tried a good number of their beers. They're basically JK of the east coast, sans the spontaneously fermented stuff. Their fruited wilds are worth tracking down, but the farmhouses with random odd ingredients were tasty as well.

I just saw Jester King has a Cherry Funk Metal and Calvados variant of Aurelian Lure (which I haven't heard of-- apparently last released in 2013) coming out soon. The Aurelian Lure is going to be another rare 330ml bottle size release, too. No word on the release date, but the labels exist:

We stopped there this weekend and I told my wife they need to do a collaboration with Prairie and call it Funk Bomb! Mix up Bomb! and Funk Metal.

I'll be in the OBX in September, interested to see what's available there. There's a brewery in Kill Devil Hills,and one opening soon on Ocracoke. I'm sure we'll check out both of those. We're staying in Kitty Hawk.

Anvil & Stave - for pours of barrel aged beers. I think you have to get a code somehow to get in. I hadn't planned ahead, so just sat at the main bar.

IMO, this beer is not worth the trouble.

So had my first experience at a pour it yourself bar today. Those $2oz cascade pours will kick you in the ass

My wife and I are road trip planning right now for our family and looking for recommendations for restaurants. Albuquerque, Moab, SLC, Boise, Cody, WY, Rapid City, SD, Sioux Falls, SD, Sioux City, IA, and finally Wichita, KS.

We leave on July 12 and return July 21.
