'15 Velvet Merkin tonight. Second time trying it and second time to be disappointed. Just doesn't match up with the rest of the FW barrel-aged lineup IMO.

Completely agree. I stopped buying them a few years ago. Don't really taste like they even spent any time in barrels.

Ok all knowing Beer Thread. . . need advice, tips and suggestions for what we have turned into a Toppling Goliath road trip.

My brother in law and friend are to be at TG at 8 Friday morning. They will probably hang around a little and then head to meet me in Chicago with a stop at New Glarus. Anything in particular they should look for/get there?

I fly into Chicago Friday morning. As of now I'm planning on hitting Half Acre and Lagunitas and then we plan to meet that evening at Goose Island. Anything else I should do or breweries or brewpubs I should go to on my solo day in Chicago? Never been so any advice on the city is greatly appreciated.

We are leaving Goose Island and going to 3 Floyd's to finish off the day and crash for the night.

Saturday we are planning on hitting Distehl at 11 am and then on to probably some place around St. Louis and then the night somewhere around Kansas City. Any places we should make sure and hit around those?

Sunday is the drive back with 1 pit stop at Prairie.

So hit me with all your advice. Any must get/stops we have left out?

Absolutely, glad you're enjoying it. Wish I could have gotten the really good **** down there for you but it's always sold out before I can get across the river to try and grab some. That's a pretty kick ass glass by the way.

Seriously... Spotted Cow, Belgian Red, Raspberry Tart, anything from the thumbprint series. Totally Naked, Moon Man, and Fat Squirrel are also excellent choices.

My WI friends brought me a Belgian Red and a Spotted Cow Cru last night. Both were absolutely delightful.

I'm not big on the fruit beers, but it's bc I don't like the style. By all other standards they are great.

Spotted Cow is the "go to" and is pretty amazing. Fat squirrel is solid. Cabin Fever is one of the seasonals out right now, and it's pretty good. Two women is a good lager. Moon man...yeah pretty much all of them.

The thumbprint series is outstanding. Right now you'll find the Spotted Cow Grand Cru and the Scream IIPA. There are still some apple ale 4 packs sitting around, but I really don't like that one. Way too sweet. If you can find any milk stout, it's fantastic, but I might have just gotten lucky with the one I found the other day.

Also, don't pass up Central Waters, especially any of their barrel aged beers. Ale Asylum out of Madison has some solid stuff, as does Wisconsin Brewing Company. There is no shortage of great breweries up here. Good thing for me is important up here multiple times a year.

If I could only pick on brewery, it would be NG.

And don't forget, you can get Surly anf 3 Floyds here too.

Ya we were going to grab some Surly and we're making a stop at 3 Floyds as well.

Cool glass my brother got me when I was home for Christmas. Nice oatmeal stout.
