I'm glad you brought this up, a friend of mine is going to Portland in May and offered to mule some stuff for me. He'll be heading out to the coast and offered to go to de garde but I was slightly underwhelmed by what they had to go when I went there last year and it doesn't seem like they put there fruited stuff on the to go menu that often.
The next place that came to mind was Commons, how do they stack up to some of the other breweries in the PDX area?
maca, might want to take a look at this list for some ideas:
http://www.oregonlive.com/beer/index.ssf/2015/11/the_oregonianoregonlives_top_5.htmlThere is a lot of stuff I disagree with in ordering but overall this is a pretty good list to reference. A decent number of the top 25 are year-round brews and should be easy enough to find at any of the good bottle shops or direct at the brewery. Boneyard Notorious and Hop Venom aren't bottled/canned, but they've increased the Notorious production a lot and you can usually get a crowler filled at the Growler Guys in SE Portland. Both of these are far superior to the Breakside IPA that was ranked #1 IMO, and that's coming from a really big Breakside fan.
Rather than a special trip to De Garde, might want your friend to head to Hood River and swing by Logsdon/pFriem/Double Mountain especially if a day in the Columbia river gorge is already on the agenda.
