My Colorado beer vacation was great. Went to around 7 breweries, ate some great food, and had about as much fun as the law will allow (in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska). Really enjoyed Avery, Crooked Stave, and the rest of the breweries I wandered around to in four days. Here are some pictures no one asked for:

Avery Tap Menu

Avery Fiel al Estilo, Eremita IX, plus a RRVB collab and SMASH pale ale

Avery's new taprooms

If you go to Avery, order this duck poutine for $11

Tiny Fishwich + Foie Gras w/jam @ Euclid Hall

Our Mutual Friend-- pretty good across the board; really enjoyed their all-Colorado ingredient Pale Ale

Ratio Beerworks-- cool taproom and liked their French Saison "Dear You" a lot. Bought a couple 2014 BBA Imp Stout bottles to send home

Crooked Stave was great. I can see why they've been mentioned so much here. Awesome beers across the board, and I bought a couple for myself and for my roommate. I tried almost everything on tap, but my favorites overall were Silly Cybies, Sherry Barrel Motif Reserva, and L'Brett d'Cherries

Black Shirt Brewing-- recommended by my server at Avery because of their red versions of various styles. Really enjoyed their Imperial Red Rye Stout (nitro), Imperial Red Rye IPA, and American Red Porter seen here

Epic was pretty good. I really liked their current Imperial IPA (#50-- "Tropical" w/NZ hops) and Big Bad Baptist. Bought a couple bottles of the latter.

I ended up spending much of my last day hanging out with my airBnb host until getting lunch nearby the house at Hops and Pie. I rounded out my 50 beer goal for the trip with a flight there, then a '13 Old Ruffian Barleywine at Great Divide (above), and an Amarillo Hop Savant found for $5.50 and drunk on the bus to DIA (below).

Nicely done. Make sure you post pics of the haul back to Texas.

My girlfriend's brother works at Ratio.

Got 2 375 bottles of the BBA stout right now, will cellar one, drink the other one soon.

I had a saison of theirs, riot something or other, that was good, and I have a gose bomber right now from them as well.

Slowly filling my new beer fridge. I've got about 80 in there, and still have 2 empty shelves that I haven't decided what to put in. This is great, since my previous storage solution was at capacity at about 180. This opened up another 100 spots and only sacrificed ~5 sqft. in my beer cellar.

You have a solution or some kind of drinking schedule to Cellaring sideways?

Nice fridge, can't wait to get one like that for wine.

No, I had brought up the laying on side issue earlier in this thread. At the end of the day, I don't think it's going to have any negative side effects. I may keep it limited to corked and caged, since Cantillon apparently stores beers this way. Having said that, I still may store them upright. I started filling this fridge with them upright. It can still hold about 70 bottles in a vertical configuration, so I'm not losing much.

But it just looks so much cooler when the beers are laying on their side!

Had a stickee monkee on tap this evening. Also, any Colorado folks see any cognac abyss here? A coworker of mine stumbled upon some at the local liquor store out here in the springs burbs. Apparently they hit town here. I missed out on it and don't know if I should be pissed or not. Not a huge regular abyss fan myself. Local beer bar got a keg of HF Dorothy which will be tapped tomorrow afternoon. Will most likely venture over there to check it out as I still haven't had a HF beer yet. Are they distributing to CO now? Nice collection btw

Missed the original post. With that kind of gathering of beer I figured that you had definitely thought it through.

Is that a control panel towards the top?

The control panel is in the middle above the firestones. It's a dual zone, that's why it's in the middle.

3 year old orval tonight. can't **** with the classics. followed up with hitachino nest red rice ale. it's not bad, but I remember it liking it a little more than I apparently do, its been a long time. not something im likely to buy again. was grabbing a few espresso stouts, which I drink somewhat regularly compared to the others, and figured why not grab a red rice and the white ale. luckily for me I also picked up some meta modern, citra sunshine slacker, and a santa fe kriek.

no, I don't have any sort of drinking plan. I drink about 4-5 bombers a month, maybe more now that wife is almost not pregnant again. This year and next we may start to put a dent in it. We'll have two kids in daycare, so there will be no beer budget whatsoever.

I was hoping to draw out the true ballers to post theirs. Honestly, this is the first time I've really organized my stuff and it wasn't all just sitting randomly in my pantry.

I have to do an overnight in Grand Junction, CO for work and would like to grab a good high gravity IPA to take with me into Utah for the weekend. Anyone have any recommendations?

Just brewery approval at the moment. They still have to get each beer approved, so who knows when you'll actually start to see their beers around.

At least Bruery isn't as expensive as Cascade, which is just sitting on the shelves. I'm good for them coming to Tejas.

That's great news.

I talked myself out of a Cascade Strawberry this weekend. It's absurd what they charge. I know I'll do it at some point, but I'm already mad at myself.

Their barrel aged offerings are just about as expensive as Cascade. Wild Ales typically run $20+ and the Anniversary beers are $30+

Mine is an embarrassment right now. Bottles on the floor, shelves disorganized, segregated areas for shipments I need to get out (Hudson first)

I need to work on getting a picture of my "pre baby cellar" side by side with my current "post baby cellar"... It isn't pretty.

That gypsy tart Flemish brown is only $15 and terreaux beret is $11. I think I've paid under $20 for all of their sours. Maybe a regional price difference? Cascade is at higher price point for sure, down here anyway.

But the anniversaries are definitely up at $30 or more.

Congrats, Jock!

I've traded quantity for quality in my cellar since that ill-fated trip to Colorado where I came back half dead. I'm down to two small beverage centers and about 30 randoms in a closet.

My little dude is due in March and yeah, right there with you. Luckily I was smart and didn't put my cellar in the room where the nursery resides now. That would probably be bad parenting. Right???

Huh, guess I'm just going off MSRP on the reserve stuff.

Nothing exciting, but it's going to help get me through a night of dry reading material! Forgive the glassware, the on-post hotel at Fort Sill doesn't offer fine crystal!
