Got a Whirlpool 14 cu. ft. fridge. No freezer. I'm going to start it at the warmest setting which should put me around 40*. I have a temp controller standing by if necessary.

I've got a friend heading to Bottle Craft in San Diego. Any suggestions on things to snag?

Kind of sounds like it. But I think it's still pretty good.

Does anyone know if de garde allows bottle shares? I'm thinking about taking a growler of yellow rose up with me.

Anything in particular and is it pretty easy to find? I don't want to send him on an odyssey during his vacation. I admittedly don't know much about them.

Anything else I should tell him to be on the lookout for?

The Whole Foods at Columbus Circle should have a couple of different Crooked Stave beers on the shelf as well as some Bell's Two Hearted. Sixpoint Resin and Sweet Action are both pretty good. I know they both show up around Houston occasionally, but they are about the best you're going to find if you want something local. Manhattan sucks when it comes to craft beers.

It's not often that a man turns 40. So what was my gift to myself? Some beer and wine of course. And while I couldn't have a balls out celebration like I had always envisioned, I decided to open up a nice beer or bottle of wine to share with my family on every day of our vacation. So here is my beer/wine journey these past few weeks. If you need a background musical accompaniment, sing the puppet sex scene music from Team America in your head.

First, let's start of with some bouncing titties, because, well, why the **** not?

The birthday haul that didn't make it to Hawaii:

This looks like a fun beer, Smore Money, Smore Problems

Framboos
Cantillon Classic
Cantillon St Lam
Westy 12

Cantillon Iris

Huna 15

Grrrz Kriek

Dark Lord '15
Dark Lord Bourbon Vanilla '15

And finally BA Dark Lord '15 with cherry and cacao nibs

The vacation celebration trip report.

Here is what I took to Kauai to enjoy with my family. I've always been a wine guy so I'll include a few pics of those as well, because they were ****ing phenomenal. But first we started the trip off at home with the 3 Floyds/ Dark Matter Dark Lord Day non-alcoholic coffee: Necromancer. It's labeled as a dark lord barrel aged unicorn blood espresso blend. It made my heart explode so I had to chew my way thru our taxi driver's chest cavity to get his and then took his soul to tip the curbside checkin people. It was metal as f*ck.

Day one on the beach, something I've been waiting to try for a few months now, SARA West Ashley.

For my actual birthday, as posted earlier, it was a 1975 Dom Perignon for breakfast...

...and a 375ml 1975 Chateau d'Yquem for dessert that night. Holy balls that THE perfect wine. Incredible! By far the best Sauternes I've ever enjoyed.

Up next, Fuzzy and King Sue on the patio.

After an ankle twisting hike in Waimea Canyon, I needed a drink at Kauai Island Brewery to wash some pain away. It's days like this that I'm pissed I can't get hammered.

Moving on...

And...

Against the backdrop of the mountains of north Kauai (which you can't see), and in honor of the duck I ran over the prior day (which didn't happen), we went with the classic...

The rest of the family arrived today so I broke out a classic:

No story here. No pretty background. No ****ing around. Just some straight up gangsta ****.

BVDL...Metal as ****:

So there's my birthday celebration drinking recap. Being in Kauai for two weeks with my family was a wonderful way to celebrate 40 years of life and I had a blast. I would rate the drinking a baller ass success...or what Bmac would call, "an average Tuesday night."
Holy crap! How many dicks were shoved in to those glasses?

Cracked open 1 of my 2 bottles of the 2015 Hibernal Dichotomous. I liked it a lot better than the 2014. The watermelon was...just kinda there. This had a lot more tartness and I like the herbal finish of the thyme.

I have another bottle sitting in my fridge if anyone is looking to trade.

You're probably going to have to look out of state for a trade on that one. It went pretty heavily into distribution I think. The HEB had four cases unopened with additional bottles on the shelves and in the coolers when I was in there last night. I'm not sure if they just made a ton of it, it didn't sell well at the brewery or a combination of the two.

It's probably sitting because of the beets. I'm willing to try almost anything, but I hate ****ing beets.

I actually preferred the 2014 hibernal over all of the other dichotomous brews, though I did enjoy the latest batch better from the bottle. It's also the second 2015 hibernal batch they brewed, so I'm guessing they wanted to make enough to have for distro. Between that and several others like Black Metal and Gotlansdricka being pretty easy to find, I think they made a point to get more of their beer distributed this year compared to 2014.

Their beers on Untappd get an average rating of 4.32. That's not too bad.
