Been taking down some Trillium lately that my dad brought back from Boston, and it does not disappoint. The Double Dry Hopped Melcher Street I had tonight was one of the best IPA's I've had in a long time. Not sure what they have in the water up there, but Trillium is fantastic if you get the chance to try some.

Wife is out of town for work, so I'm drinking FW Double Jack and watching every Sideshow Bob episode of the Simpsons.

I just went by the brewery on Congress tonight. Purchased two bottles to bring home, but missed out on their Raspberry sour.

I'm excited.
Someone on their IG asked if it was coming out Memorial Day and they replied and said no. Good thing because I'm going to be gone that weekend. TexAgs meetup!

Fruit in a beer??

Why do people get soo excited when there are soo many others that do this? (that don't require max effort to acquire!)

Maybe I'll pop a tart, fruity Almanac this evening in honor of those who will wait in line for this

Mostly because there are very few breweries in Texas, or available in Texas that do these types of beers. JK, while limited in bottle count is still somewhat accessible for many of us on this thread. And they make really, really, really good stuff. If Almanac were on shelves in stores here, I would be buying and drinking them a lot.

Plus you add the hype and popularity that has grown from JK releases and you get the excitement that's built from the product.

I'm leaving my wife in Texas when we go back in Jul so I'll have a few weeks running solo. Plan on making one or two last beer trips up to denver and trying to get up to weldwerks.

IMO, Cascade's fruited sours are as good as JK's and a lot easier to find.

With regard to Texas brewers some of Texian's fruited sours are pretty good as well. I really liked Aurora.

I guess that came out a little bit wrong. Leaving her with her folks for an extra couple weeks down there.

I'd hope they'd be better for $25+ a bottle. That's probably why they're easier to find too and the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger on any.

ditto, the only one I've ever pulled the trigger on was bourbonic plague and I split the cost of that with a buddy, and it was still too damn high.

Blue star for you. Same boat here.

Only way I'll try one is likely a bottle share.

I've been able to try three or four JK fruits, and my all-in cost per bottle was north of $25 on all of them. I'd much rather spend $25 on a bottle of Cascade whenever I want something fruited instead of driving to Austin to fight the neckbeards or going through the trouble of finding a mule.

Also, Cascade sours are 750 ml. $25 for 750 ml isn't much different than $16 for a 500 ml.

It looks like JK sells 500ml fruited sours for $16. Cascade sells 750ml fruited sours for about $25. That is nearly the exact same price per ml.

I get that JK is a local brewery and it is a cool place to go have beers. What I don't get is that lots of people say Cascade is too expensive, when it is really about the same price as JK.

As La Fours mentioned, there's a lot more to it than price.

Which, I've never seen lower than $29-30. Neglibible, but still.

Anyone pick up this year's Sierra Nevada Beer Camp?

I normally pick it up but passed on it since the price was $30 for the 12 pack and none of the styles really jumped out at me.

I guess I didn't realize there were so few fruited sour options in TX.

But as already noted. cascade per oz is not much higher if at all than JK.. And that doesn't require the effort to get one.

I don't bat an eye at Almanac which are $12 ish, and 12 oz. I do like the smaller offering.. I don't always want 25 oz of sour. A half liter is perfect. Paradox went that route.. and they release a sour about once a month, usually with fruit. They are in 9 states.. maybe TX is on their radar.

DFH has their festina peche, in a 4 pack... way less than $1/oz. Is funkwerks in TX? They have a few fruit sours (also in 4 packs) Epic has a sour IPA you'd swear had fruit in it, but it's strictly hop flavor.. but they have fruit sours as well.

I'd think crooked stave will be in TX soon.. They are in like 20 states.

I get the love for JK, they make good beers.. but to see people drool over a picture of fruit in a fermentor.. a little overboard.

speaking of paradox are they ever going to open their new spot in divide? I'd like to check it out but hardly ever actually buy their beers at the liquor store since there are so many better options.

I would say it's "to each their own" in regards to the reaction of the JK picture. It's cool, and if someone is excited about, great.

Epic is in Texas, but not sure what all gets sent down here. I know BBB does as we as some of their Brainless stuff. But I haven't bee impressed with Epic at all. The BBB I had was awful. Drain pour awful. The Brainless peach I had was very meh.

I think Funkwerks is in Texas, or soon to be in Texas. I've loved the few different Funkwerks beers I've tried.

Raspberry Provincial from FWerks is a solid year rounder. The only Cascade I've tried was the strawberry (2014 project I think). Was ok but I'll take Collective petite sour/Avery varietals any day over that. Still not cheap.

I buy Almanac anytime I'm somewhere that sells it. I wish they'd distribute their Farm to Barrel beers to Texas.

They didn't even havedrafts at the last one.. they just poured from bottles. Can't believe they've been out of commission this long.

I've liked all of their stuff (since they fixed issues early on). It's a great price point ($.75/oz), 500ml is the perfect size I think for a sour, and who doesn't like a different one every few weeks? Experimental mode to the max.

I've had every skully except 2,3 and 4 I think... and really can't recall one I didn't enjoy the flavor. Like I mentioned they had issues with no carb with the flip tops, but they switched to caps and they went away. I have had few gushers from a cap, and that's disappointing, but I just make sure glass is ready to go when I open. Still tastes fine.

I'll take Jester King over Cascade 10/10 times. Cascade wild ales are all way too lactic and abrasive for my tastes.

Yeah I made a few trips up to the barrel room there in woodland park. They used to have stuff on cask early on but that went away and they started exclusively pouring from bottles. While the prices were slightly better than other stuff on the shelf I just didn't like them consistently well enough to keep buying them. I was happy that they got away from the flip tops, they always seemed to either be gushers or flat.
