Not a ton of good meads in TX. Texas Mead Works is not bad but none of the really good meaderies distribute to TX. If you want to get more into mead I would suggest trying to get some from Schramms. You can get their basic shelf stuff pretty easy from people in Michigan ($15-$30 a bottle). You can also order online from Superstition Meadery in AZ but prepare to bust out your wallet. Most of their stuff ranges from $30-$70 per bottle.

Just in case anyone wanted to beat the Black IPA horse into the ground a little further, here is the Paste article ranking the top 21 of them. Top 21 Black IPA's It even mentions the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous in the opening paragraph when talking about how polarizing the style can be.

It is interesting they only have 21 ranked, where some of the more popular styles have anywhere from 50-80 ranked though.

Lots of good beer too. I usually try and get at least a couple of souvenir cups of Rodeo Clown in my system to maximize the revelry. A couple years ago at the Brigadoon Brewery, we got a private beer lesson and tasting from the Lone Pint owners for about $20 a person. Definitely worth it.

A year ago I didn't know anything about mead and then I had a bottle of schramms at a share and that immediately made me a fan. Now I jumped into the deep end and have tried a lot of the mead whales and they have all been awesome.

I'll be sure to bring a baller mead bottle to the UCLA game to change everyone's mind.

I only drink mead made from the honey sucked from a queen bee's tit. It's really hard to come by.
