Gold Wax Assassin is probably the best stout I've ever had. Taste wise it's a 9.5 but mouthfeel on that beer is insane. I can't imagine brewing that beer. It's probably a 18-20 hour brew day.

Posts on TA and then goes on BA and makes a baller offer to get another one, nicely done sir

I'm sure ill get crickets just like last week

Because if it was a bomber $1,000 wouldn't be ridiculous.

That's exactly what I was thinking...sometimes I think I shouldn't even be in here.

Agreed, but you're a young one, so you have time to catch up with some of these dudes.

Then again...Hickory High is class of '16?!?! Dude, your beer world peaked early. What's next? ****ing Kate Upton in a hot tub filled with SR-71?

It's nice having single young adult friends who make pretty good money and have nothing else to spend it on but good beer.

Yeah we'll see if I can ever touch that level! One can dream right?

And gah I know Hickory too and I have no idea who these high rollers are!

Yeh I'm not spending $100, let alone $1000 on a beer. It can't be differentiated from a $20 beer. The taste in no way justifies the cost, it is 100% bragging rights, or feeling exclusive, and I have no desire for that. I am in this to drink good beer, and that can be had under $20. The crazy lines, hype and high price tags do nothing for me.

What are the best breweries/brewpubs in DFW to visit? Both for a good venue and good to great beer.

Places I've been to:

  • Community
  • Deep Ellum
  • Braindead Brewing
  • Small Brewpub

Places I haven't been, but heard are good to see:

  • Franconia
  • Lakewood (went through improvements recently??)

What am I missing out on?

What does one offer up in an attempt to get a gold wax Assassin? Just curious.

Peticolas and Four Corners are both really good. Oak Highlands Brewery is pretty close to Lakewood Brewing...still a small shop but a good vibe there.

Peticolas is only open for a couple hours on first and third Saturdays of each month, so you have to plan around it.

Go to Four Corners for a drink and then do dinner at Luck in Trinity Groves. Always a good evening.

Damn I forgot that I'd been to Four Corners before, for a beer after dinner in Trinity Groves.

Franconia is okay. None of their beers stand out to me. And this is coming from someone who lives in McKinney. Tupps is probably the better brewery to visit in McKinney. But Im not sure it's worth a trip up here for.

If you really wanted to, you could hit up Tupps, Franconia, and Nine Band in Allen for a Northern 'Burbs trip.

I'll second going to Peticolas. 1st and 3rd Saturday's, 1-3 only. My favorite brewery in DFW and I honestly don't feel that any are close to the quality he produces.

You used to be able to get it with quantity when it came out in 2014. I think I traded 6 JK fruits for my 1st one, back when JK was still trading at pretty high levels. Now it takes either a combo of bigger named harder to get bottles or other top bottles like BVDL, Side Project Derivations, other TG stouts, Cable Car +, etc.

Ahh makes sense. Appreciate the info. I wish I had known a little more back when some of those were trading for JK fruits and the like. Ammo in TX is pretty limited for the big name bottles if quantity doesn't get it done.
Bmac04

Your best bet it to keep trading up. Trade 2-3 JK fruits for a little bigger bottle, do that a few times and then trade those bottles for a bigger bottle. It gets pretty expensive if you are shipping each time and half the time its easier/cheaper to get a few friends together and chip in and buy a nice bottle.

I like Tupps in McKinney a lot. Their Road Rage(double peppered ale) is probably my favorite, but they have a good selection of decent brews. It's really fun to hang out there, as well.
