I've had the 90 and loved it. Seems like its worth a shot

I've had 120 twice and I have 2 more that I've been aging for several months now. One of the best beers I've ever had. It's super alcoholic and the hop bomb is on a nuclear scale but it's so far over the top it almost tastes sweet. It's definitely in my top 5 beers. You must not be an IPA guy, in which case I could definitely understand to not liking it.

Found some good ones on draft tonight.
1) The Abyss. This is tasty. A little bit of smokey flavor.
2) DFH *****es Brew. Very good, and if it wasn't following Abyss, it would be phenomenal. But compared to the Abyss, it's just "very good"

I' had a 2010 Abyss about a month or two ago. Would really like to find another

Trying the Deschutes Twilight Summer Ale for the first time tonight. Smells like it will be close to an IPA, taste is actually really light and citrusy for a pale ale. Easy drinking, great for a (relatively) warm day.

After loving the River Ale and the old Mirror Pond standby, IMO Deschutes can do no wrong.

Abyss is on my "holy **** I've gotta find that beer" list, I've gotta get my hands on one!

Buddy of my texted me tonight and said the Ballast Point Sculpin IPA is amazing so that's going in my list, probably somewhere under Pliny the Elder

Ah, yeah it's almost strange how sweet it is, but I absolutely loved it. I could see someone not liking the sweetness. Just out of curiosity, what is your all time favorite IPA?

Pliny the Elder is in a class of its own. I'm also a big fan of Moylan's Moylander.

Had one, likely would not get another if I came across it.

Busted out my JK Weasel Rodeo tonight (celebrating an Aggie baseball victory). Little warm outside for this bad boy, but what the hell!? I'm a fan, really like how the chili peppers come through at the end.

With a mere 10 days left of teaching 7th graders, I've gone to "screw it, I'm drinking what I want" mode...

Strat do any of the breweries have guest taps? I'm really looking for something with a variety along the lines of a saucer.


Was really looking forward to trying this but was a bit disappointed in it. Seems like its just got too much goin on in there.

It tastes like sorghum syrup, not a fan of that in my beer

I find the 120 to be extremely sweet as well. I'm hoping that some age on it will mellow it out. I bought 3 bottles last year and all I could taste was sweetness and booze. Almost no hops. And I loooooooooooove ipa's. It's my go to style. The bigger the better.

The 2009 DFH 120 that I had last month had really mellowed. Some of the imperial IPAs are best left unopened for a few months so that the flavors are able to meld and the sweetness gets scaled back. Just my opinion though, all I do is drink beer for a living.

On the subject of the Abyss... It is phenomenal.

I still have some DFH 120 at Tower Point. I'll be there until 1pm this afternoon.

A beer that big almost by definition has to have a lot of sugar left over after fermentation. The FG on that beer is probably as high as some OGs of pale ales. If you cranked it way down, it would just dry it out like crazy.

Hard to find a 12-13% + beer that doesn't have sweetness. If you think about it a barley wine is pretty much an IPA (very hoppy and bitter and high abv), but it's sweet (and typically a bit darker). Lower the alcohol and the FG, which means less sugar left over, and you pretty much have an IPA.

120 min. could really be a barleywine. It's plenty dark enough, and fits all the other criteria.

Currently have a 120 in my beer fridge aging from mid last year. Really hoping it mellows, don't intend on breaking it out for quite a while.

On a separate note - I have a couple of brews that I could part with - 1 Karbach Fun 05 BBH and 1 Old Rasputin XV Anniversary Barrel Aged Stout. Any of you fellas feel like making a trade? Located in the the City of Syrup but can ship if need be.

Little Sumpin Wild and Hop Stoopid are both great beers, especially at their respective price points.

They didn't have much of a selection where I went and was looking for bourbon barrel aged Hellfighter but no one seems to have it, at least none of the specs in Houston do

Maca - most of the Specs in Houston tend to sell out of the big releases on same day, in many cases within hours. A lot of people here have good luck with some of the HEBs/Krogers out in the burbs.

HEB Bunker in Houston has a sh*t-ton of the new Karbach Love Street, a ton of Founders, 2 cases of DFH 120, and a case of Ballast Point Sculpin

and since when is LoF La Folie $14/bomber? i dont recall it being that much, but they have a few of those fwiw.

Maca, not sure if you are anywhere near cypress, but the heb off 290 and barker cypress had some last night.

Stopped by Ballast Point brewery back in Feb when I was down in San Diego. Sculpin is nails. One of the best IPAs out there

I'm a big fan of sours and IPAs/DIPAs, so something along those lines that I maybe hadn't tried before. I didn't really have anything specific in mind, just wanted to throw it out there and see what happened.
