Thanks. In the future, what would you suggest to try to ensure that some gets sent here, or any of the limited release stuff for that matter? I pester the Specs and HEB beer guys here locally. Anything else?

It kind of depends on the brand. For example, we don't have rights in Houston with Deschutes but we do in BCS and our office that handles BCS is out of Houston. So obviously, on an item like this where we get maybe 25 cases for the state, it's going to be tough. Other brands we carry statewide and have a greater distribution out of our Houston market. BCS may have in fact got a small amount, I just haven't seen their breakout. That help?

I picked a Funk Metal the other day. And I really like it. Lots of sour and pungent funkiness at first and it finishes with roasted malty stout goodness.

Had the RU 55 last night... Loved it! Good to hear about the Funkmetal too.

If you're ever in San Francisco, Speakeasy Ales & Lagers is a pretty cool brewery to check out. Had a serious Karbach vibe, and I really liked their Payback Porter.

Thanks for the tip duck, S&K had plenty (probably a dozen cases left) of Sucks in store. The guy there said he had bought 43 cases.

He was already out of Abyss, said that both cases were sold out yesterday when he got them.

I just drank the last of my Lagunitas Sucks last night. Wish I could find some more...

Drinking some ProAM ipa tonight

I've been looking for some stray ProAms laying around specs or the grocery store. Seems like the cleared it out to make room for old potentate.

I don't like the sound of that... The specs @ 290 and Jones in Jersey Village had a full shelf of it this afternoon.

Here it is, from yesterday. Pliny the Younger. Was it a phenomenal beer? Yes. It's an 11% ABV Triple IPA but you wouldn't know it from how smooth it is. Was it worth 7 hours in line? It wouldn't have been for just that, but Russian River had a ton of other great beers (15 or so on tap) that made it a really fun time. Recommend checking out the brewery if you're ever in San Fran/Santa Rosa.

Little Sumpin Sumpin is good stuff. And I have a friend who moved to Portland recently who's been trying to get me to come visit, I may have to do that eventually.

Opened up my bottle of black ops. The gf doesn't like it (she doesnt like bourbon). Gonna take me awhile to get through this, but its going to f me up...especially considering my last 36 hours.

My favorites were the Knee Deep and the Hopoclypse from the hoppy beers. The Jester King was a hit with these Cali guys (and 4.5% alcohol was a nice change of pace) and you can never go wrong with Tart of Darkness or Baller Stout.

What'd you think of the Speakeasy DIPA? I was at their brewery on Friday and liked their stuff but didn't get to try that one.

It was my least favorite of the group. It was a bit too malty for me. It's very reminiscent of Firestone Walker Double Jack, which isn't really my style. I have a bottle of the regular IPA leftover that I may try tonight.

That's a bummer. I had a taste of their regular IPA, thought it was good but not great. I liked their Prohibition Ale quite a bit and their Porter was my favorite one.

The Ballast Point was flavorful but not as coffee forward as Real Ale Coffee Porter (likely masked by the vanilla). It's boozy, but great.

The Morgul was excellent, as well. I'd like to try to neat Morgul to compare to the BA Morgul, but BA was just oaky enough to my liking.

Both were relatively light on the mouthfeel and finish. I'll def be buying more Ballast Point and would grab a growler of Morgul if I come across it.
