After 5 or so there, my beer fridge opened up more than a normal night.

Then a Stillwater Existent



Then Firestone Walker Wookey Jack



Then Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA and DC Brau Corruption IPA



Finally Foothills People Porter



No guarantee I'm done yet.

The gf and I bounced around a bit. Had some beers at pinthouse pizza. Now I'm at home drinking adelbert's triple.

The triple b is a problem at 9.3%

I don't consider it a problem.

When it's free and all you can drink, you'll feel different. It "can" be a problem.

Did a little Colorado springs tour yesterday. Started at Bristol had the mass transit ale. Then phantom brewing, had a cask ale of some beer made in england. Then had the saison man at trinity brewing. Finished off in castle rock at rockyard with a bier de garde.

popped open my bomber of New Glarus Belgian Red. Very disappointing. Way too sweet. Tastes like fruit juice.

Ok Untappers, got a question for ya.

What does it take, or what constitutes a 5 cap rating from you? It seems that some folks almost never hand out a 5 as if only 5 beers in the world deserve a 5.

My thinking is that say the top 10% of the beers out there should get a 5. We can argue that but a 5 should NOT be a nearly unattainable grade.

Perhaps a scale similar to this makes sense:

Top 10% - 5
Top 25% - 4
Even (50%) - 3
Bottom 25% - 2
Undrinkable - 1

Is a 0 cap a score or considered an error?

Anyway, there's my general approach. What is yours?

I haven't found anything I'll rate lower than a 3, but that's generally because I haven't been rating for very long and feel like I pick out beer I know I should like.

I end up giving out mostly 4 caps, with 5's reserved for something that really makes me take a step back and say "wow this is ****ing good"

Looking at the 19 I've rated so far, my 5-caps are:

-Lagunitas Brown Shugga'
-FiftyFifty Brewing Co. Eclipse Imperial Stout-Elijah Craig Barrel Aged (2009 vintage)
-Fifty Fifty Eclipse Imp. Stout- Rittenhouse Rye (2012)

Man I miss that brewpub now that I've moved back from Tahoe.

I wish we could rate with half stars. Some beers I feel like are in between.

In general

A very rare beer will get 5 stars...Lagunitas Sucks was my most recent (I am a sucker for IPAs though)
My general drinking beers are in the 4 star range
An OK beer is 3 stars...aka Fat Tire, Sam Adams Lager, etc
2 stars usually goes to the Heineken/Amstel/"premium imports"
1 stars - Lite crap....

In Chicago for work this week. Enjoyed a nice (bad-a) burger at Kuma's Corner and some Three Floyd's Gumballhead and Robert The Bruce last night! Great stuff.

Oh hell yeah. I'm jealous! Think you'll make it to the brewery? Also check out Paddy Long's pub online and see what they are pouring. I had a good time there.

At Specs midtown. Grabbed my 2012 Abyss and they've got Sucks on the shelf.

defroach - who do you know at Adelbert's? My cousin is assistant brewer and I'll be taking the tour next month when we're in Austin (I'm in DFW).

Not sure exactly what I think of this. It tastes a lot like 90 min just in a fancier bottle

Just saw this BSD. Check out page 137 for pictures, etc from my trip here in November. I won't be headed to the brewery this time, but more than likely over the next few trips. It looks like I may need to check out Paddy Long's now as well.

I hope to make a Blinny's run tonight. If any of you guys want to trade an Abyss or two (my favorite beer of all time, no matter the changes each year) with something I can find up here shoot me an e-mail. I have limited room this trip, but should be back in about 3 weeks.

I picked up an Avery Maharaja and Mephistopholis today. The hope is tomorrow Abyss will be at Specs in CS.

I'm sorry to hear....the one I had last year was fantastic

when did you have it last year. I bought mine in Sept. First beer I've had from NG that wasn't badass.
