Aren't scotch barrels just used bourbon barbells?
I figured it was more due to the fact of the scotch and beer flavors not playing well with each other.BSD said:My first thought is that maybe the cost of getting Scotch barrels over is prohibitive.62strat said:
Always wondered why I never saw any scotch barrel aged stuff. We got wine, bourbon, american whiskey, tequila, plain oak..
Nope, while both are whiskies, Scotch is made from barley in Scotland while Bourbon is corn-based from the US.ChipFTAC01 said:

I think he was asking if scotch makers use old bourbon barrels to age the scotch. Which I think many of them do.BSD said:Nope, while both are whiskies, Scotch is made from barley in Scotland while Bourbon is corn-based from the US.ChipFTAC01 said:

Ah...gotcha. Yeah, the Scotch distillers do use old bourbon barrels.La Fours said:I think he was asking if scotch makers use old bourbon barrels to age the scotch. Is it superstitious or taboo to plan on your possible victory beer right now, just in case?
i could just tell you it was a new type of sour and then you'd pretend to like it so you could be cool.Scriffer said:AggieOO said:the 40 is DELICIOUS!Scriffer said:

By "delicious" do you mean "scotchier"???
Because if so....pass.

My current theory is that brewers are buying ****ty scotch barrels now just to try and be buddy-buddy with the barrel brokers in hopes of landing brandy, calvados, cognac, and rum barrels in the future. There's no other logical explanation for putting perfectly good beer into such god awful vessels.
This is what I think about tequila barrels.. beer and tequila don't mix, and I'm too stubborn to try one and prove myself otherwise. I see those dang avery fortunas every time I go into the store.. but I pass.NColoradoAG said:

What's worse, gin barrels or scotch?
Saint Arnold Gindeavour was pretty tough for me to drink.
I haven't had a lot of Tequila BA beers, but I did enjoy Firestone Walker PNC and Fate aged a Gose in one that turned out alright.62strat said:This is what I think about tequila barrels.. beer and tequila don't mix, and I'm too stubborn to try one and prove myself otherwise. I believe I've had beer aged in cognac, rum or brandy.
