Always wondered why I never saw any scotch barrel aged stuff. We got wine, bourbon, american whiskey, tequila, plain oak..
My first thought is that maybe the cost of getting Scotch barrels over is prohibitive.
I figured it was more due to the fact of the scotch and beer flavors not playing well with each other.

that was my second thought, especially after the B*tch Please that I did not care for.

Nope, while both are whiskies, Scotch is made from barley in Scotland while Bourbon is corn-based from the US.

I think he was asking if scotch makers use old bourbon barrels to age the scotch. Which I think many of them do.

Ah...gotcha. Yeah, the Scotch distillers do use old bourbon barrels.

Anyone here going to the game?

Is it superstitious or taboo to plan on your possible victory beer right now, just in case?

i could just tell you it was a new type of sour and then you'd pretend to like it so you could be cool.

Good deal, this was my plan as well.

My current theory is that brewers are buying ****ty scotch barrels now just to try and be buddy-buddy with the barrel brokers in hopes of landing brandy, calvados, cognac, and rum barrels in the future. There's no other logical explanation for putting perfectly good beer into such god awful vessels.

Make it a Sour IPA, and you've got yourself a deal.

This is what I think about tequila barrels.. beer and tequila don't mix, and I'm too stubborn to try one and prove myself otherwise. I see those dang avery fortunas every time I go into the store.. but I pass.

I believe I've had beer aged in cognac, rum or brandy.

What's worse, gin barrels or scotch?
Saint Arnold Gindeavour was pretty tough for me to drink.

Agreed on gin barrels. I've tried Contemplating Waterloo a couple times, and I just can't do it.

I haven't had a lot of Tequila BA beers, but I did enjoy Firestone Walker PNC and Fate aged a Gose in one that turned out alright.

Don't get me wrong, I still drank Gindeavour. But the whole time I was thinking, why did I pay $10 or whatever for a barrel aged beer that's worse than the original?

Could possibly make this happen another weekend. This weekend is pretty jam packed. I'm sure it'll stick around a while.

Some of the Fantome has already started it making it back up to DFW if you need it locally. Saw it pop up at Kegs & Barrels over in Plano.
