Many years ago, I had a sports illustrated cover of his framed in my home office. Now, I think that he is a very, very self absorbed, narcissistic, deranged loser.

You framed a random SI cover of Phil? Yikes.

Seriously, Phil Mickelson? You framed a Phil Mickelson cover? How hard did the people at the frame store laugh when you brought that in?

Phil is scumbag, sometimes it is hard to admit that the guy we like or root for is a piece of **** but in this case you just have to admit it. Phil is a scumbag.

So who is wins the title between the big rivals as Biggest Scumbag, Phil or Tiger?

Not even close. Woods.

I would say it's still pretty arguable. Although Tiger's DWIs are probably the worst single acts.

But on their infidelity, Tiger's was consensual. Phil, on the other hand, may be a serial sexual harasser. Throw in the potential insider trading and trying to ruin professional golf and there's definitely a case for Phil. And as others said, Tiger's "good" side of the ledger is much better.

I think this incapsulates my thoughts very well. You may not like Tiger and what he has done, but it was consensual. What Phil has done for a very long time but just been lucky enough to have had the media and others gloss over is then fact that he is a habitual sexual harasser/predator.

And as other mentioned about the good things that Tiger does do from his foundations to other charitable work is much better than Phil. In my mind there is no defending Phil and his conduct over the past 30 years.

To his credit, Tiger seems liked among piers and does quite a bit for charity. Has/does Phil ever done anything when it comes to charity other than supporting Amy's cancer?

I will also give Tiger credit in one other way. As the first big name African American in a sport with a less than stellar history of race relations, Tiger was often invited and encouraged to denigrate golf's past and he certainly would have had every right to do so. But he largely passed and has generally been gracious on this. I don't think it can be understated how much Tiger's approach on this helped heal golf. He could have tore down a lot of people and places if he wanted. I respect him for not doing so even if a case could be made that some of them would have deserved it.

With Rory calling out Phil yesterday for his attempt at " blowing the entire professional game up". It made me think, will we see Phil again on the Pro Circuit. With LIV dying, will he be welcomed back on tour?

With the sexual assault allegations from this year and years past coming to light, along with everything else, I think there is a real chance he is done for good

I can't see a world where he is involved with the PGA at any level.

Yeah, I think Phil's gambling got him into dire financial straits + it was an ego stroke. He won't ever be in a PGA affiliated event again. Will see him in some majors for a few more years and that's it.

That said, I don't think the PGA should fine these guys. I simply say "well, you surrendered your status, so go earn it back thru the paths available to every aspiring PGA player. That path is well defined."

For a number of reasons, his fall from grace is pretty unprecedented. He was completely set up to take the Arnie role. Broadcast, opening tee shot at the Masters, elder statesman, etc. Now, looks like he will be persona non grata for the foreseeable future. Sad ending but apparently well earned.
Enrico Pallazzo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Totally torched a legacy. And with how he operates, whatever $$$ he got from LIV was a temporary solve. If the gambling and the ego/style don't change, he'll burn thru it too. Only a matter of time. But next time there won't be much to fall back on given he's torched himself. Future revenue streams are parched

However the rest of the tour owes him a debt of gratitude because you cannot honestly say that conditions on the PGAT didn't improve due to LIV.

As for the ship jumpers that took the bag to go to LIV, I can understand a person being offered "double the pay with a quarter less work" and them jumping on it. I also suspect that 99% of Joe Sixpacks across the country would jump on that deal as well.

The top tier of the tour. This didn't do jack **** for the rest of them. Outside of the top 50, it did basically nothing. The 75th guy on the 2026 money list made the exact same amount as the 75th guy in 2022. Same for 100th. And going into next year, it makes it tougher on the non-top 50

The top tier who was already banking is getting to bank more. That's all this did.

Claiming anyone would take the money does a disservice for the dozens of guys who didn't. Tiger, Rory, Scottie, JT, Spieth, Xander, etc could all have gone to LIV and put hundreds of millions in their pockets. But they didn't because they thought the Tour was worth fighting for. Saying the handful guys who took the bag just did what anyone else would do is simply not true. The vast majority of tour guys, in fact, did turn it down and that shouldn't be glossed over.
EliteElectric

But is that really true?

That's all easy to say now that LIV has failed but if it were a rousing success would those guys still turn LIV down?

LIV was never going to succeed. We have about 60-70 years of professional sports that told us it wouldn't. There's no AFL, ABA, USFL, etc for a reason.

I'm not as sanguine. If everyone had merely been about the bag, then they would have taken all the top guys and become the premier golf tour for the last 5 years. Maybe that still wouldn't have generated enough interest to offset the costs but not sure where we would be right now if all the top guys had gone. It may have been the tour that folded.

but with the talent that defected to LIV, the 75th guy from 2022 is now probably the 50th guy on tour, which by default makes him more money. There's a reason there is a mass wave of new talent having so much success the last 2-3 years. There's always new talent, but IMHO its a larger wave since LIV.
Enrico Pallazzo
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LIV does not have remotely close to 25 top 50 guys. That's a big part of their problem. Probably more like 5. Maybe 7 being generous

There are about 5 current LIV golfers in the top 50 in the OWGR with the highest one being Rahm. Bryson is ranked 36th. One can dispute the full rankings of the OWGR but the reality is that the LIV golfers overall performed poorly in golf majors this season led by Bryson's 3 missed cuts.

5 top soccer leagues?

Are you saying English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 & Bundesliga?
If so, these are all in 5 different countries and while they do compete for players, they don't compete as much for fans in the stands. They do not overlap geographically

Similar PGA and the DP World/Euro Tour, they really don't overlap geographically.

I'll always believed that a lot more guys were ready to make the jump to LIV before Phil, his interview and all the others started opening their mouths and disrupting the timing

Hell, so many forget that PGAT and PIF had some sort arrangement, handshake deal in place before that all went to ****, too.

Pure speculation, I'm guessing the PGAT was cornered into accepting a deal from the PIF that was going to allow basically anyone the right to play on both the LIV and PGAT (somehow) but LIV got antsy and wanted to get started before the PGAT was ready…and then everything came crashing down (on LIV) and the PGAT was able to take the "high road"

Make no mistake about it, LIV has fundamentally changed professional golf, which we will see come to fruition in 2028 with the PGAT and the PGAT Light

May have been inadvertent, but the agreement that went nowhere ended up a stroke of genius for the PGAT. I think it cooled LIV off of continuing to dump crazy $$$ to pull more players because they had line of sight to an arrangement, but by dragging it out and ultimately doing nothing, it bought time to allow what was always going to happen - the Saudis tire of burning $$$ and kill it

LIV golf didn't change the game of golf. For all of the money LIV golf burned and wasted, they weren't able to really show anything substantially changed with how golf tournaments are played, team golf doesn't work outside of Ryder Cup style and they didn't attract any new fans or TV viewers. The US Amateur golf action on TV from last week outdrew LIV golf. In the end, LIV golf was a Ponzi scheme that was never going to work.

Imagine if the PGAT had been given $6B to use. Absolutely amazing they turned out a sht product with unlimited resources for a few years.
