The data golf info is absolutely terrible looking for Spieth. If he wouldn't have chipped in on 3 it would have been even worse. https://datagolf.com/ryder-cup/strokes-gained

Rahm is just a cheat code so far.

Team USA is basically Clark, Scottie, and Koepka.

The fact that Burns is #4 doesn't match what is being said on here. JT way lower than people wanted to pretend earlier. He just looked okay compared to the implosion that is head case Spieth.

JT looked very good ball striking.

He had a couple putts he should have made and it's an entirely different story.

Not sure what to make of those numbers. For instance, JT and Koepka both only played 4-ball. JT had 5 birdies today and Koepka had 3 and they about the same number of bogeys/DNF. By all accounts, JT shot the lower round. Stats saying Koepka outplayed him is weird.
JBAB

beerad - correct. JT was 3rd to only Rahm & Hovland tee to green out of all players today. Nothing outstanding but very good at everything (other than putting)

Here it is sorted Tee to Green. This kind of tells you who hit the ball the best today. Putting is a bit of a "lucky" stat when looked at over the course of 1-2 rounds, etc. Tee to green stats TEND to translate better day to day. Whoever putts the best out of the best "hitters" tends to win.

Time for some redemption in Rome tomorrow for Team USA! See if we can get to 6.5 or 7 points by end of Day 2.

Watching golf Channel and I know no one likes Brandel but he made a really good point. Said Burns is pretty much the 12th guy on the team by pretty much any statistical measure. The Euros always put their horses out early, and it made no sense at all to pair arguably your best golfer with arguably the worst in literally the first match of the Ryder Cup. Basically, anyone would have been a better choice and it makes zero sense to start the Ryder Cup like that. Can't say I disagree.

Blame Zach Johnson. That was a "boys club" decision.

Don't think it's been talked about much but the tv coverage has been awful. Running stupid puff pieces while golf is being played. I'm up at 5:30 to watch golf. Show me the golf.

And there have been a ton of commercials. Now that our TVs are much more interactive, I wish I could push a button and promise to buy a Rolex, Lexus or boner pills to prove the ads worked and then it runs commercial free.

I think Glover would have, SG off Tee, Approach are very good and since switching to the "broomstick" - he is lights out putting.

Could have used some of that today.

Water under the bridge.

Didn't matter who played for Team USA as Team Europe was playing lights out with some luck in there today.

Bradley, Young and Glover all had their chances to make the US Ryder Cup team on points but didn't so they only have themselves to blame.

Not so for Glover, he was floundering in putting and was outside the FedEx playoffs about a month before they began, but after he switched putters he caught fire. Confidence went through roof all in about a 6 or 7 week time span. Perfect for a Captain's Pick. Seems like a good dude and would have fit in perfectly IMHO.

Some of the TV coverage issues, especially what and how many shots they show, is due to NBC having to use a third party Euro provider for coverage. They have some of their own cameras out there, but not near as many as they would have in the US. Here's a story about the Solheim Cup coverage, that is going to bleed over to some extent to the Ryder Cup coverage.

I don't care which 12 players are out there, being behind 6 1/2 to 1 1/2 and not winning a single match all day is just embarrassing.

If they don't come out with a chip on their shoulder tomorrow, they could be in danger of being on the losing end of the most lopsided loss ever.

Glover knew the rules and points system. Glover's record in majors, big events and overseas was poor as well

Not disagreeing, he struggled with putting - even considered switching to left hand putting.

Tee to Green his stats were incredible. Once he changed putters he was excellent. We need putters. Fowler, Morikawa, and others struggled big time.

That change happened only recently.

Look, I hope Team USA can reverse their fortunes and it is easy to criticize ZJ, but I argued before captain's picks that Glover should have been one of them.

Glover not being on the Ryder Cup team was the correct decision as Glover was in 16th place in the US standings. Just too many poor marks on his resume overall when looking at the past year to two. Both Young and Bradley were in the Top 12 in the point standings for the US and had a better case than Glover did.

Yeah, Glover moved up quickly after the putter switch. Won the two events in a row including the first playoff event.

I think the points should be weighted in favor good play within 6 months of the RC.

Agree to disagree about Glover.

But it is on Zach's shoulders now. I love the RC. Just massively disappointed in the showing today.

Let's hope for a huge USA rally.

That's weak sauce. Even if true, you can't say that out loud.

Just caught the replay of this. A euro reporter asked ZJ during the press conference if there was something going around the team because the reporter himself said he noticed that the players all seemed congested. I thought ZJ handled it fine saying yes but that everyone was ready to play.

Listened to some of the NLU pod earlier. They're right about one thing- US team is a bunch of front runners. When it's rolling they're all buddy buddy but when things turn they're a bunch of little beetches. No one was really supportive of those last few afternoon matches and they all flipped to halves. Also reports Xander and Cantlay are locker room cancers complaining about not being paid this week and just generally bad attitudes. No idea if that's true or not but it's out there. Sucks waited 2 years for this crap.

ZJ brought it up well before that, himself. Whole thing came off weak AF IMO.
