I don't follow the regular tour week to week and have seen nothing of LIV.

What from Dustin Johnson's play this year screams he's a take for the team over others that were chosen? All I've really noticed is his major finishes - T48, T55, T10, Cut, and he didn't play The Players. Has he been tearing up LIV?

Sergio has a losing record in singles play in the Ryder Cup. For Team Europe overall, you could make a case for Seve, Poulter or Montgomerie as one of their best. The best pairing for Team Europe was Seve and Jose going 11-2-2.

Removing the obvious that LIV doesn't get any RC points...RC is supposed to be a 2 year window when viewing who should be on the team. He had a top 10 at The Players 2022, 4th at WGC Match Play, T12 at the Masters, T24 US Open and T6 British. He also won the individual title in 2022 fairly easily.

This year hasn't played great but has 1 win, is 7th in the standings and has 5 top 10's.

I would have absolutely taken DJ & Bryson over JT & Burns. But I get why they didn't as mentioned on the thread. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a lot of friends club influence.

He went 5-0 in the 2021 cup. That's a ridiculous statement.

JT has better win % than DJ
Burns is comparable in talent to DJ and part of the club.

Bryson should have won earlier in season on LIV and he would have gotten a real look.

Now do JTs resume for 2022, if you are going to credit DJ for his. Thomas won the PGA, 8th at the Masters, 6th at the Genesis, T8 at Phoenix, T37 at the open.

Ok, Dustin is 7th in the LIV standings, but what does that mean? Is he playing good golf?

Bryson played for most of 2022 and the start of 2023. Really didn't find his form until a few months ago. He's won 2 of the last 3 LIV tournaments, but one of those was after the picks were made. He is obviously a guy that nobody wants on the team, but he also wasn't in the conversation with his play either.

DJ hasn't played well all year and didn't deserve a spot on the RC team

I'm saying I would have picked him all day over JT the way JT has limped into the RC.

"Deserved' is way too loaded the last 2 years with everything that has happened. JT didn't deserve it either and would never have made it had LIV not been a thing.

Have a buddy that was suppose to fly out tomorrow with a group to Rome to attend the RC. He just found out tonight the trip is cancelled due to the Italian baggage handlers strike starting tomorrow and over the weekend. What a cluster f@#$ that will cause at the airport.

One could argue that Ryder Cup hasn't been about the best players on each side of the pond playing against each other, ever. Captains get picks and grab who they want, not always who is playing best. Hell, Poulter played a ton over the years despite below average previous results in regular tour stops.

Yeah. The goal has never been to take the 12 guys playing the best right this second. Fit has always played a role. And every time there are close calls and guys that were on the outside looking in and have a gripe. This year doesn't seem any different.
all is true, but the fact that the LIV guys can only earn points through the majors and essentially being blackballed for consideration is wrong imo. It should be about USA vs Europe. Not PGAT vs European Tour. At least thats my opinion. Feel free to flame away PGAT fan boys

But I think this would imply there were a large number of LIV guys that should've made the Ryder Cup and I don't think that's the case.

It's going to end up being a one time blip in the selection process. LIV will be gone by the next Ryder Cup.

I will go Europe 15 USA 13. The European team has the better top end, but the USA is much deeper all the way through the end of the team. I would love to see the Yanks pull it off, but I'm pretty sure we have won in Europe once in my lifetime.

4 out of 24 (5 with Koepka) isn't exactly a small number.

Sergio. Bryson, DJ, and Pieters.

I mean they did everything possible to ensure they completely erased those guys from having a chance at anything. Yet Brooks still made it, ant he others are an obvious conversation for people without a bias. If that's not failing the fans, I don't know what is.

Match 1 is awesome with the two hyper emotional Euros vs two of the most laid back and calm Americans. I'm really glad we're sitting JT and Spieth in alt shot.

Xander is my guy going back to when I got to meet him and watch him work privately at Torrey before the open a while back. But the Euros should take that match. Let's hope they don't.

Rahm and Hatton are just as likely to get in a fist fight as to win that match.

Scotty and Burns are a great pairing personality wize.

You just never know in match play.

It's about controlling the emotions, gaining momentum and ultimately make putts.

Dropping winning putts is the way !!!

The more I think about it, the less I like Scotty and Sam in alt shot. There is such a discrepancy in ball striking stats with Burns being among the lowest on the team (negative SG approach). I know they're best buddies, but it seems like Burn's approach shots will leave Scottie with much longer putts and his tee balls with leave Scottie with longer irons, potentially from the rough.

I admit I'm not familiar enough with the course layouts, but I am guessing the thought process is to try and have Scottie hit most of the approach shot's and rely on Sam's great putting.

Not a fan of the Burns/Scottie pairing for foursomes. Burns is struggling with ball striking, Scheffler with the putter, they have opposite shot shapes. I wasn't a fan of the Burns pick over Young, but I thought if you brought him he needed to be a 4ball and singles player and find a different partner for Scheffler in foursomes.

I also love the presumed or potential Koepka/Clark pairing for 4-ball. Those guys are are birdie machines.

You act like the qualifying criteria was specifically changed to exclude the LIV players and that is not the case at all. The qualifying criteria has not changed in recent years other than the expansion of the number of captain's picks from four to six. The players who chose to play in LIV exhibitions, especially those who've qualified previously, knew the consequences of not playing on the PGA Tour as is related to Ryder Cup qualifying.

Zach Johnson throwing Harmon and Homa out there just seems lazy. "Let's just throw the 2 ryder cup rookies out there together". Harmons accuracy and short game are tailor made to be paired with one of the big hitting, high risk, high reward guys.
