Thanks for sharing that. That's really great that you were able to have that conversation with him.

I really enjoyed that segment with Joel

The Dahmen episode was great. And let's not kid ourselves, the dude has plenty of confidence. You don't get to where he is without it.

I think he just does a really good job of managing expectations. Because of his life experiences, he doesn't get too high, doesn't get too low. He understands that this is an awesome ride that it will eventually come to an end.

Pretty easy guy to root for.

I don't know. If you're super confident, you don't almost skip US Open qualifying. When the pressure was off after a few White Claws, he tore it up. I think he knows he's good but hasn't been confident enough to give all out effort and still fail.

By the end of the episode he was discussing that maybe he should raise his expectations a bit. That's what everyone around him was telling him. Go out there and try. I think the weekend at the US Open was a bit of that for him.

I think his life experience will allow him to not get too down on himself when he does lose, but what's the worst that can happen if you try? Looking forward to watching him this yearhe's been really solid until this weekend.

Y'all should listen to the Joel Dahmen episode on the Subpar Podcast. Probably my favorite guest they've had on. He's great to listen to me sounds like he's be a blast to hang out with. Talks about purposefully hitting shanks on the range at pga events just to see the looks on other players' faces, trying to complete the White Claw Challenge (24 white claws in a day), and more.

That's the sense I got. He's so down to earth and he's not the type to have fake bravado. When he says he's not sure if he's got the talent, he doesn't mean he doesn't think he's not talented. I feel like he just means top-ten type talent and he's not gonna say he has it till he's done it type thing.

Yeah I agree I think he's just very humble. Maybe a little less confident then most the alpha athletes that make it to the top of their respective sports but I still think he knows he's good. I think he's also just realistic that guys like rory, Rahm, scheffler etc are on another level.

The episode with Tony Finau got me. It got a little dusty when he talked about losing his mom. Also, what a great family.

Thru the Dahmen episode. Seems great so far. Brooks confidence was more shot than I thought, sheds some light on his decision and reversing what he was telling players. Poulter made a good business decision and his closet can now remain endlessly stocked with ugly pants. Dahmen rocks.

I binged 4 episodes with my daughter yesterday, we both enjoyed it. I alway thought Ian Poulter was a jerk but I came away with the impression that outside of golf he is a pretty good dad. Now I can't wait to get to the Finau episode because he is my daughter's favorite player.I enjoyed the Dahmen episode as others have mentioned,

Through episode 5. Came away a Poulter fan, which I did not expect. Really like Fitzpatrick as well. True grinder and student of the game. Also love the random cursing that even tour players belch out after a bad shot. Fitzpatrick, for example, dropping a 'F#####g Hellfire' bomb after a bunker shot. Never heard that one before.

Alright, enough of the feel good stories.

Let's talk about the LIV players in the doc. Did that change anyone's perceptions on the new league?

My thoughts: Beyond a cash grab (nothing wrong with that either. These dudes have a family to support and if they feel like their skills are slipping to compete in the PGA then it's a wise decision) I think its a good move for them. From a fan of the game and fan point of view, you hate to see it right? Our beloved PGA tour is sacred. But from a player of the game in the grind of things, I don't see anything wrong with the choice of going LIV.

I enjoyed it. Seeing the ribbing and betting is fun, and makes them seem more normal. Especially the JT thing at CVS.

A lot of the brooks ep felt cheesy and phony, particularly the scene where he's talking to his mom on the couch.

At first I was kind of excited about it but after watching it not a huge fan of the product. I have no issue with those that chose to go especially the ones in their 40s and on the decline. The younger ones kinda stinks to see their world rankings decline and may not get to play in the majors anymore soon minus the ones who have won the masters.

Koepka's flip to LIV was a shock to some players because he'd recently told them he was Team PGA. There was a backstab feeling that some had. But the main thing I took from this show was the amount of belief he'd lost in his game. He talked about leaving that Masters feeling embarrassed and that he'd never felt embarrassed about a tournament before. He literally said he couldn't compete with the guys currently at the top. Then he follows that up with two 55th place finished at the PGA and US Open before announcing he was joining LIV.

Massive payday is hard to turn down when the entire year did basically nothing but solidify doubt about your game and your future on tour.

That's been the general theme for most the guys. Guranteed money, less pressure, less tournaments. Hard to say no to that for most guys. DJ said it pretty well, he's already built a hall of fame resume and has proved himself in his career. He's got nothing to prove to anyone. Might as well cash in and enjoy life. Nothing wrong with that. Good for him.

One little thing that bothers me that shouldn't, some iron shots have driver/wood noises. You'd think they'd be able to at least get that right.

Through 5 episodes as well. Least favorite was episode 1. I found myself liking Poulter more too after his episode. Don't blame him one bit going to LIV this stage of his career. And DJ is such a freak.

That and the Koepka story were probably the only ones that were entertaining for the avid golfer. Some of the JT clips were good.

DJ (or maybe Tron??) from NoLayingUp said it best (and I'm paraphrasing)… "If I didn't know any better before watching this, Tulsa must be the center of the golf world."

Looks a little chilly there
His wife seemed like a complete bimbo on the show.

Did anyone else see in Ep6 that Collin Morikawa's wife had little shoes or socks on that ridiculous little dog they seemed to take everywhere?

If I understood the rules correctly, they can make their money on LIV, but still qualify/play in the US Open and The Masters every year. So they're only missing two major events and really, at this point in some of their careers do they care about the grind of the 'lesser' events?

Also, my son got to work the US open in 2019 at Pebble Beach. Totally random that he got a 2-week internship with the PGA, and my uncle had a former Navy buddy that had a condo close to the course so he had a free place to stay. So he drove out and worked for 2-weeks. He was super busy up until Saturday/Sunday, so the supervisors let the interns have some breaks and he got to go watch some holes. He said everyone would cheer and yell out golfers names when they came walking up the course, except Tiger. When Tiger walked by it was completely silent. He said it was like Jesus himself was walking by and everyone adopted a reverent tone and demeanor

His twin brother was stationed at Pendleton, so him and some Marine Corps buddies drove up Saturday and he got them in to watch. Pretty awesome for all of them.

They'll be able to play all majors assuming they qualify. However the problem is most qualify by their official world golf ranking. At this time LIV events don't qualify for world ranking points so all of their rankings are plummeting every week. Some are trying to play in other tours to get some points.

A lot of the players who have won majors recently will get some exemptions. The Masters and PGA championship winners will qualify for life at those majors but us open and British open have a cutoff. For example, Phil Mickelson 2021 PGA Championship win makes him exempt for all majors until 2026. He is then exempt for life in the Masters and PGA Championship, and can play in The Open until 2030 when he turns 60.

Here's a link I found that details all the LIV players.

My wife was working on the couch next to me while I was watching this episode. The only thing she knows about golf is it can consume more of her husband's time and attention than she would prefer at times.

When he said he didn't know who won, without skipping a beat and without even looking up from her laptop, she let out a "oh bull****".
