Troll or not, I might actually watch that. Zero interest in this first slapdick iteration

Manziel finished DAL at the Texas Open and is not a big draw in any way.

The goal of the LIV isn't to get eyeballs for the first handful of tournaments...it's to get the PGA to react so the other top guys can feel comfortable hopping over to play in LIV along with a PGA schedule/majors, etc. so they can legitimize the league. Bringing someone like him in would be the opposite of seeking legitimacy.

The only way I could see that being even remotely interesting would be for each team to have a celebrity amateur as one of the 4 members.

Maybe I should have said their place in the history of the game rather than legacy. Beating David Puig 5 times in a row will make you richer than you already are but doesn't mean you did anything remarkable.

They should all do what they need to do. At this point I don't really care. Setting the money aside for a moment I'm not sure I've ever seen someone who is at heart a competitor voluntarily accept relegation or sign with the Durham Bulls rather than the Yankees.

Hasn't Gooch made $9.5MM in his 20's and over $3MM this season? I think he stands to win a lot more on Tour. I guess because I don't have any I don't understand how much money you need.

Other than to Texags is a he a celebrity? Celebrity and laughingstock are different things.

Exactly. And he may be a laughingstock to half or more of TexAgs at this point too

Just some more on the money being thrown around.
$6MM up front and $250k per start for an amateur? Not sure how the PGA Tour could justify blackballing someone taking a deal like that.

If I was in that situation I think I'd take it and ask for forgiveness later. That's life-changing money.

Yep, it would be irresponsible to pass up.

I want to see Greg Norman tee it up. I saw an interview where he said he can't break 80 now. He could fill in as the 48th.

So beating him on the tour was somehow better?

Just look at this thread. The players are unhappy with the PGA. So are many tournaments and even majors. It's questionable if the PGA will have a legacy at this point. None of these guys founded the PGA like the legends of old. Some of you guys have lost touch with reality of today.

This is a PR and social media world driven by money. LIV is the perfect place to capitalize on that. Hell DJ has majors and outside of Tiger is a top 10 figure. And all mist we'll do is question his legacy even if he had stayed on the tour. Taking the check and having a chance to be this generations Goolden Bear if he can spearhead the LIV. On the tour he's just another guy compared to others.

Hold on everybody, Gabe said we can look for Johnny to be on the leaderboard on a Sunday at the US Open. So maybe the idea isn't that farfetched!

On Tour you won't be beating Puig because he's a long way from it. You'll be beating Spieth, Sheffler, Rory, et al. They found a minor league with crazy money. Good for them.

That will never be topped for most outlandish post ever on Texags. He meant it too.

Jerry Foltz, on course reporter for years on GC for mainly LPGA events is leaving GC to do the same for LIV Golf.

Who was the stuffy old brit who said the negative stuff about lady golfers? Ben something. Maybe they can dust him off and let him call some holes. Don't think the saudi's would object to him saying something about boobs getting in the way.

Nice. Just what I needed to really watch the LIV's field… the women's golf announcer!

Gotta love UPS. Cancel long sponsorships with Louis and Lee because of LIV, but of course, definitely not ceasing operations in SA.

Gotta keep that socially acceptable image up.

Darren Clarke was told if he took a commentator role with LIV, it would impact his involvement with the Champions Tour:

Jerry Foltz is a great on-course announcer. Certainly better than anyone at CBS, though that's not saying much.

McAfee had on Dan Rapaport (Golf Reporter) on his show earlier this week. Interesting interview with two guys coming from a different professional sports background. Dan does a great job breaking down the LIV tour as well.

I think the PGA is going to need to make some changes to stop additional guys from going to the LIV tour. When only 60-70 guys are making any money at a tournament and they have to pay out of pocket to get there will push the mid-lower tier players to move. While they may not be exciting now, they could develop into world class players that don't care to join the tour because they still get invited to majors and make a guaranteed paycheck for themselves and their team. You have over 150 players on tour that have earned less than 1mm this year. Players can make close to that by finishing in last place ($120k) in only 8 events on LIV.

I find it ridiculous as well.

The only way I can answer that question is that you have some very powerful yet very petty people involved.
AggieDruggist89

Questions for those who will never watch the LIV league. All hypothetical like the TexAgs+2.

1. If LIV was sponsored by Canada or Australia and not SA, would you watch it?

2. If LIV eventually pulls in the most top 50 golfers, would you watch it?

3. If you were a contractor doing work for a sole source company and you may not even get paid for your work based on your performance while using your own resources to do the work, then a new company comes to you with a guaranteed income, would you jump ship?

The question is, can the PGA Tour compete financially against the house of Saud and their Petrodollar???

The answer for all the is yes for me. Simply because I'll watch it now.

I'm sorry, I just don't get the SA problem.

The current tour was built on Tiger Woods and Nike who uses slave labor in third world countries. The entire Saudi Arabia is the problem is hypocritical at best considering most sponsors of the PGA have no problem doing business in SA and many of the leading equipment companies have no moral high grand to stand on themselves.

I almost hope some of the players who are dropped by their sponsors take them to court if they do business in SA or sponsor players aligned with Nike or other equipment manufactures in third world countries. And I hate litigation as a solution. F them.

SO, unless the PGA Tour can boost up the minimums for people to earn each week, all the top talent will go to LIV?

Does the PGA start limiting fields to 48? I mean, a guaranteed payout is nice, assuming you get an invite. is there anything other than "invite only" right now? Some way to qualify or be relegated from LIV? Will the roster of 48 remain the same throughout the entire 8-14 event season, or does it change every event?

I would prefer it to be something along the lines of football (soccer) Champions League, almost like a glorified FedEx Cup, where you have to earn your way in each year. It would be extra events, but that seems to make more sense than a completely separate tour.
clobby

I don't anticipate a mass exodus to the LIV tour but I could see some other big names moving over after some time plays out. There is no reason that every player is not getting some compensation. Some of the players are there because its a job that pays well and why wouldn't they want work less and make more.
