Going to play Eagle Mountain one morning early and then Sunridge Canyon at 2pm that day since they're very close. Too many choices you know?

Hope its in good shape for y'all. Its been some years since I've been back to the area so I can't speak to the current condition, but from what I saw back then it was worth bringing up in this thread.

Played it yesterday day. Not as good as 2018 but it didn't disappoint. Probably a bit steep for $140 but $100 sounds perfect.

Has anybody played Scottsdale in early May or early June? If so how was the heat and course conditions? Trying to get a couple of buddies to go then because the rates drop.

The heat is not at all bad at that time of year and the conditions are generally good. The best part is they don't observe Daylight Savings so you can go out for an early (6am) round and the sun will be coming up. It's easy to squeeze in 54 in a day.

I recommend Grayhawk and We Ko Pa. Avoid Talking Stick. I wasnt as impressed with Ak Chin as much as others. Do love their drinks though. Think its called Transfusion (Vodka, Ginger Ale, G2 Grape Gatorade. Sounds weird but damn were they good. You will suck down 4-5 of these a round and not notice. Very refreshing.

Love Transfusions - ironically, considering this thread, the best I've had were at Houston Oaks.

We Ko Pa and Boulders were both very nice. Boulders does not oversees their greens so they held the ball much better than those that do.

I think the $~240 price tag is a bit steep for both but the $100 replay at We Ko Pa and $80 replay at Boulders was a steal.

And the eye talent in that town is unbelievable. Love that place.

To the guy that just learned about transfusions. At first I was like, aw that's cute; dude didn't know about transfusions. But then I remembered when I was first enlightened... it's a game changer. Cheers! Welcome!

Pro-tip: one of the rare instances a "double" doesn't make it better; order 2 instead.

did some booking yesterday for our buddies trip in May.

Flying in on a Thursday and coming back early on a Sunday. Here is what we got so far....

Thur: is up in the air still. Looks like it is between Camelback Ambiente, TPC Champions course, or Legacy golf club

Fri: 36 at We-Ko-Pa

Sat: Quintero in the morning and leaving the afternoon open in case we want to relax and not play, or just squeeze another 18 in somewhere last minute.

Any recommendations on Thursday round would be appreciated. We are trying to keep it close to town and close to $100.

Thats what I had originally planned but they are wanting $100 or more to play there. Seems like a flat type of muni to me. Wouldn't one of the other courses I listed be more bang for the buck?

Of those three, the TPC course would be my choice.

I'm looking at maybe going first weekend in June when the summer rates hit. $67 for Quintero and $79 for WeKoPa. Troon North is dynamically priced but I was told it should be less than $100. If I end up going sure hope it's a really dry 100 degrees.

I really enjoyed it. Seems like a lot of the locals/more frequent Scottsdale players we talked to out there prefer it to the stadium course. It's pretty forgiving, greens were in immaculate shape, and we had a good time.

It is flat and right in Scottsdale so on a hot day it will be hot.

There's a reason the rates drop. Even the Outlaw Tour takes June - August off. Play early. Since they don't have daylight savings time you can't really play as late as we do here in the summer.

I've had the itch for an AZ golf trip and this thread isn't helping keep money in my pocket. Hopefully get to go soon and knock some of these courses off the bucket list

That was me all last year, happy I'm done with that.

It was excessive but served its purpose at the time. Everyone on the course doing it though is twilight zone level.

I'm on this trip with my 18 year old son as probably a last real road trip together before he goes off on his college golf adventure in August. It has just been the 2 of us since he was 3 years old so I'm locked in this week.

We were at Wildfire Palmer course yesterday which I highly recommend. We got paired with a former teammate of Ryan Moore at UNLV and current jicky jack player. My kid is a +1.1 so he's a decent player. He hit one into the desert on 17 and had to play sideways so he was hitting 3 from where the other guy was hitting 2 and that cost him the game. The other guy is a jicky jack hustler and country club caddy and he was flipping good. So many good golfers here.

It was fun watching 2 guys hitting it 320 down the pipe and having reasonable birdie putts. The tee shot 5 yards into the desert on 17 was the only ball either of them had to look for all day and this place was tight. They played in just over 3 hours and we never saw a group in front of us teeing off at 12:10 Sunday. There is a Faldo course there as well so it would be an easy morning round, lunch, afternoon round place and it's just a few blocks off 101.

Off to Quintero this morning.

He played golf as a little kid but lost interest when he got to HS. To get out after Covid he took it back up last May and got pretty good. Started playing junior golf last September. Missed by one shot qualifying for the Texas Junior Amateur so that's now his goal. Roger Sloan has been very nice to this kid and shared with him his path from new to golf at 16 to PGA Tour card and even invited him to play last Sunday.

Short story made long (TLDNR) so sorry for that. He had no HS or junior resume' so I started emailing college coaches. He's signed with a JUCO where he will play next year hoping to transfer after the year. One coach at a small 4 year school here in the Phoenix area got on him and has stayed on him from the jump. He's got a top junior player from Norway signed and told us he'll take a raw kid who can shoot or break par and see what he can do with him. We're meeting him face to face for the first time Wednesday after they get back from a tournament in San Diego. He wants him to get some tournament experience at JUCO and come here to play 3 years.

Pretty easily got his index to or 4 but couldn't get any better so he started taking lessons in December and is now in plus index territory.

Are you sorry you asked?
