Why no early action on Golf Channel?


The Masters has never been shown on TGC. And anything more than 3 hours Saturday and Sunday evening is gravy!!! Right?

I noticed out there this week a lot more smaller TV cameras throughout the course. When I asked, they said they were working for the club. I wonder what the next move will be as far as TV broadcast.
But why? Is it AN that makes that call? You would think they would want to televise as much of it as possible. Or are they just trying to drive traffic to the app? My Apple TV went out last year, I guess I'll have to pony up for a new one so I can stream to my TV from the iPad.


The AN makes every call. The AN has also always said they want the patrons to be able to see.more than TV viewers. That's why for decades they never even had cameras on the front nine on Sunday.

They went without TV sponsors one year instead of mess with the Martha Burk controversy.

I don't get the complaints about them not showing enough golf. I think the AN runs the best sporting event in the world. Not even close. So I'm fine with whatever the AN does.

And the TV deal isn't really a deal. It's somewhat shrouded in secrecy, but basically, CBS gets to show it but the Masters just reimburses them for their production costs (and uses the 4 minutes of ads to pay for it). All in, the Masters nets Augusta National about $30 million per year in profit, which is nothing compared to what it's really worth. The prestige and pub is enough to make it worth CBS' while, and in return, AN has complete and total control of their product and how it's presented.

Really? You don't get the complaints? People want to watch the tournament and can't. What is there to not get? We can watch more of whatever garbage tournament there is any week than we can if the greatest tournament there is. Of course we want more!!

I will take watching golf for 4-5 hours only interrupted by 15-20 minutes of commercials total over seeing 3 extra hours of guys that aren't gonna win any time. But we all have our personal preferences.

Agree to disagree. I don't get the complaints because it's so better than it was. And I think there may be more shown of the masters than any other event if you factor in online coverage and lack of commercials.

Really? You don't get the complaints? People want to watch the tournament and can't. What is there to not get? We can watch more of whatever garbage tournament there is any week than we can if the greatest tournament there is. Of course we want more!!
What are you complaining about? Get a chromecast for $30 and you can watch the FREE streaming from them.

The problem with this statement is that Phil is already on the course, along with Kuchar, a group of guys in contention that would be awesome to follow NOT on my phone...and there's still over an hour until they come on air (more like 90 mins after the cheesy intros). Just because the coverage is "better than it was" or "could be worse" is a sh/tty reason to not complain about it.

And the problem with biching about it every single year is that it is literally yelling at clouds. AN is gonna roll with how AN wants to do it. So I don't see the need, benefit, or otherwise value in annually getting worked up over it.

Phil and Kuch are the feature group on the app feed. You can literally watch every shot they hit.

I realize that. I just find it stupid you have to use an app to do so, especially when it's approaching 3 o'clock on the east coast.

With the addition of the track feature and the ability to see every single shot from any golfer I choose, plus the site/app coverage, ESPN and CBS broadcast, I'm satisfied with the Masters coverage.

If and when Tiger loses this tournament it's not just the putting he'll look at. It's the inability to take advantage of the party 5s and #3. You can't go through those first three holes with no birdies day after day.
