I wouldn't say US golf is behind Europe but we just can't figure out alt shot. Looking over the records since continental Europe joined the matches they have killed us in that format. We won the 4 ball 5-3 this time but getting smoked in alt shot.

#1 Lack of talent compared to Europe.
#2. Couple of our qualifiers were playing poorly at the end of the season.
#3. Two of our hottest guys at the end of the year didn't make the team or get picked.

Unless we go back to USA vs GB&I (only) we're gonna see little change for a fair few years.

the captains picks are a big issue, the three hottest guys (already mentioned) at the end of the year should have been on this team, you gotta ride the hot hand, not bring your friends

Some really great match-ups here. I like the young guys going out early. To the post above mentioning lack of talent, I have to disagree. The US won in 2008 and lost the last 2 by one point. Hell, we were 10-6 2 years ago ourselves. They've got to do something different with the pairing for 4-somes. It's just not working and that's what the killer is. I also think this means more to Europe. They really want to win and it shows.
