No, one game by itself does not make the difference (see Tech v. atm), you have to look at the 12 game season as a whole. Tech won more games, lost less, finished ranked in both polls, AND won a bowl game.

Again, it's not just me who thinks the Tech had a better season...look at the polls. Sure it's influenced by how you finish. But so is the number of games you won or lost...and in what fashion.

These are all the same damn thing!

We had a slightly better season prior to the bowl game. The records were the same, we beat you guys, we looked better against common opponents.

Then came the bowl game. You guys won big, we lost big. That one game put you higher in the final rankings (which we all know are heavily influenced by the 'what have you done for me lately' attitude)

AND

gave you that better record.

So explain something to me.

You say Tech had a better season last year because you finished ranked and A&M didn't even though A&M won the head to head.

But then you go on to say that Tech has dominated A&M for ten years even though A&M finished ranked more times in that ten years than Tech (including a conference title).

So which is important? Head to head or overall accomplishment?

That one game counts. Just because you can't look at a single game and say that's how an entire season went (ex. atm v. baylor), you can't just discount whatever single game you wish either.

I'm not discounting it. But that's the only thing your argument hangs on.

It would be one thing if you could bring something else up BESIDES ONE SINGLE GAME to prove why you had a better season.

I said it above--you beat cal, which gave you one more win, which vaulted you higher in the rankings. That's all you've got.

Use CMacks logic and see if Tech has had a better season in 7 of the last 10 years. I'll go out on a limb and say that somehow the logic will change and you'd still find a way to make atm's season better except for the 4-8 year.

But unless you hang your arguement on one game results each season there is no way you can say Tech has had a better ten years than A&M.

This whole thing cracks me up.

So mj, you really believe that everbody who votes in a final poll sits down and analyzes all of the D1 teams, all of their wins and losses, and then says, "OK, now let's figure out who had the best overall season?"

Head to head, it's not even debatable who had the better decade...7-3 speaks for itself.

However, I'm sure there are some years in the past decade where Tech won yet had a worse season than atm.

Aggie argument to why we had a better season.
*Tougher OOC schedule that we did well in. Our OOC loss was to an undefeated BCS team. Yours was to New Mexico.
*Better performance against common opponents.
*head-to-head

Tech argument to why they had a better season:
*we beat Cal, which let us finish higher in the rankings.

Baylor loss = New Mexico loss

You lost more games, we won more games...no matter if the wins occurred in week 1, 7, or 12. They all count the same.

Anyway, this is a stupid argument. We finished ranked higher at the end of the season, which is the ultimate goal. I'd take a loss to atm right now if it guaranteed me a higher ranking.
