Exactly busdriver. Gill is the personification of the 12th man by what he did in 1922. Gill is not the 12th man. The 12th man is the student body. Zimmer and Duke are tilting at windmills if they are looking for a reference calling Gill the 12th man.

Randy has written about three more novels elaborating on how he's not really Charles Shatterfield, about how he carries a hand gun, and he hopes Charles Shatterfield does as well, just in case those mean old aggies knock on his door.

lol.

I think he really believes the delusional image that he has of us. Like we have ever actually taken internet matters into the real world.

I mean, other then RLW....like we have ever taken internet matters to the real world.

:p

Oh, and that time missy got his ass kicked. But he was literally asking for it...so /shrug.

In other news, there current dedication to the asshurt inspired by Daddy thread has no devolved into discussions about the "Jim Rome" rant. I'm sure Randy will be along shortly to inform them of the mythology surrounding that particular subject. You know, intellectually honest and objective as he is, and all.

Ben replied to me letting me know he updated his story and notified his editors of the changes. He immediately distanced himself from Randolph and denied he was a source. He simply read an article Randolph wrote and used it with credit given. I get the feeling young Ben regrets using said source material.

he does want any and all references to our 12th Man that predate 1939 forwarded to him. I'm thinking he is going to write a follow up article validating our usage.

He replied directly to you on this? E-mail?

I'm surprised actually.

Just so nobody questions the article I posted from earlier, here's a screenshot of the 1933 newspaper scan:

And here's another one from 1937:

Nice, hopefully people send him as many clippings as they can find.

Maybe he'll write a follow titled "Facts seem a bit troublesome for Randolf Duke"

I wonder if he'd like some other facts about that nut job to publish?

We should thank Randy for spurring all of this additional fact finding by dedicated Ags. Should help the lawyers with the renegotiation with Seattle in a couple of years now that this tremendous amount of evidence has been brought to light. Plus, we will likely have the WSJ backing us up shortly.

Just sent him the 2 images above. If nothing else, it shows that A&M had a "12th Man" at least as early as 1933.

And managed to reach out to Duke to give him a heads up that the article was coming out in a few days. That doesn't hold water.

He called Duke for an interview after reading his article. I don't think he realized at the time what a raving lunatic Duke is. The crazy ******* can put on the airs of objectivity when he wants.

I think he does realize that now, however.

Indeed it does. Excellent finds, Grapevine. I think it's becoming incredibly apparent that the fans of Texas AMC were already thought of as the "12th man" by a number of reporters in the early 1930's.

Its about time TAMU gets its act together and starts clearing up some of the questions regarding all this before the ags get themselves whipped into even more of a frenzy. All anyone wants to see is their first known account of E, King Gill being referred to in print as "the 12th Man"and what the date on that document is. That's it. One piece of paper. I've looked for it and I can't find anything before 1939. The WSJ writer looked for it and had the same issue. One piece of paper that the Cushing Library has to have. If they have a document dated prior to 1939, great. If not, they should just come out and let the world know. It's not that difficult to clear all this up.

So. damn. stupid.

Lost in all of this is the fact that a 12th man was added to football teams during this time. Exactly how this 12th man was used is not clear but from what I gather he directed things on the sidelines to aid offensive scoring.

I may be completely wrong but some football history guru is welcome to chime in and school us.

I happen to have a 1924 Battalion hanging on my wall. It's from October 22, 1924.

Here is the front page. We were playing SMU that weekend.

Here is part of the article that talks about the game and bringing the twelfth man. It gets more in depth about the twelfth man being loud, but that part has some damage to it.

Here's what Randolph will hold on to:

Agiesieigges claims that E. King Gill is the 12th Man and they were using it since 1922. No proof of that exists. Other schools has used it before so their trademark claim is invalid.

Here's reality:
E. King Gill personifies the 12th Man, which has always been the student body possibly even before he suited up. His story of being ready to serve varsity if needed in 1922 is true and accounts of the game are provided. Dating back to around that time, the corps/student body was referred to as the 12th Man/twelfth man. Schools may have used it before, but A&M has a history of nearly 100 years AND holds the trademark - which in the end is all that matters when it comes to commercial use of the phrase.

I have to thank Randy for all of his work. There is quite a bit of interesting history being brought to light by his search – his intentions be damned. Like most Aggies, I always viewed Gill as the personification of the spirit of the 12th Man, but I’m pretty damn sure that spirit lived well before the actions of Gill.

I just emailed the photos. I have the entire Battalion.

It was given to us as a house warming gift. Some friends of Arson's parents moved their mother out of her home and while going through her attic, came across the complete Battalion. So they had it framed and gave it to us for our house. It has such a cool insight into the life back then.

It says the enrollment was 2,243, up almost 200 from the year before. It talks about breaking ground on a hotel at the MSC.

And that the Ross Volunteers acted as escorts for America's Most Beautiful College Girl.

It talks about the game against SMU and the struggles with money to get to the game, but that if you could afford it they needed every man in the stands. The twelfth man was needed.

And then there are the ads. Talking about getting your boots or shoes fixed, etc. So very cool.
