The origin of the tradition is anything you guys want it to be. You can say the origin of the tradition is when baby Jesus was born. You can say it was born at the Alamo. You can say it was born in 1858 when the University of Texas was established. It doesn't matter. Pick any date and spin the yarn from there to make it anything you want it to be. It's an **** tradition and ****s can make the tradition anything you want it to be. Just don't come up with a story that doesn't match the historical record and claim it is absolute truth. Don't say TAMU originated the term in 1922 when it was originated at least a quarter century earlier by someone totally unassociated with TAMU. Don't say the team was decimated by injuries during the the game when there were in fact (according to Jinx Tucker) a whopping three injuries. Don't say Gill was the only substitute left on the sideline when he was one of ten substitutes standing on the sideline. Don't say he was carried off the field as the hero and from that day forward known to all ****s as the school's "12th Man" when no one referred to him as the "12th Man" until McQuillen's play in 1939. It's unethical for an institution of higher learning to be teaching a version of history they know is essentially fiction, but who said ****s had to give a fu@k about ethics.

Have fun with your tradition. Make up whatever stories you want to in support of your tradition. It's sad that TAMU has mislead so many alumni and represented to alumni and the general public. It's even more sad that so many ****s continue to lie to themselves about the facts surrounding the 1922 game. Your idiot friends over on texags have themselves all worked up wanting to physically attack some guy and harass his wife and kids because I dared to speak the truth. It's insane that TAMU alumni believe they have to attack little kids and beat the crap out of some poor guy who has nothing to do with anything because the truth about the 1922 football game has been talked about on a UT website and was picked up by a professional journalist. THAT is your fu@king tradition. Not a "willingness to serve." It's an utter refusal to accept what you don't want to hear even when it's the truth and your cult like need to beat innocent people, including this guy's wife and little kids because you don't like what other people say on message boards that have nothing to do with your school. What other school has alumni so warped that people have to reach out to the freaking FBI to let them know idiots on texags are stalking some guy on the internet for the express purpose of harassing him, his wife and his little kids. Who in their right mind would even care, let alone stalk someone who isn't even associated with all this. All because TAMU has brainwashed its alumni to follow a story that isn't true. How has TAMU convinced these people that if anyone dares speak against the school's "traditions" that their obligation is to commit criminal acts to silence those who don't agree with your school's "teachings"? Again, THAT is your fu@king tradition. THAT is your sick fu@king tradition. THAT is the sick fu@king mentality that we were fighting against over in the Middle East - a bunch of jihaddis who were out to use force to silence anyone who dared question "the teachings."

So, make your tradition anything you want it to be. Live in a world of denial, fantasy and lies. Believe in the tooth fairy, the easter bunny, Allah and teachings that all infidels must be silenced and E. King Gill as the sole substitute, carried off the field as a hero and from that instant on hailed by every person on the planet and the little green men who live on Mars as the 12th Man. Beat the ever living fu@k out of anyone you want to every time someone on a message board dares question anything that comes out of your school's "traditions council." After you beat random people to show what your school stands for, go run up to their little kids and yell as loud as you can at them, but make sure you look in their eyes when you do so. Scream at the little kids and call them every disgusting name you can think of and make sure they know that is what TAMU stands for. Let everyone know how TAMU alumni act when people dare say things ****s don't want to hear on message boards that have nothing to do with the school.

No amount of research, or discussion, or evidence will ever make some of you guys believe what you have been told isn't true. If you have to ignore reality to maintain your self image, ignore reality and believe in your "traditions." Silence the infidels and be proud of the type of individuals TAMU has turned you and your fellow ags into.

Ho-lee sheit. Yeah, it's us who have the problem.

I think you can put this thing to bed. Randy has went full retarded.

It just amazes me that they don't write to the WSJ demanding a retraction, but instead follow the genius idea of stalking some guy, along with his wife and little kids, all because someone on a message board said something that wasn't consistent with their beliefs. Last I looked, they were starting to hunt down the guy's parents, brothers and sisters. One of those idiots is going to take things too far and someone is going to get hurt and Billy Liucci and a bunch of others are going to get the living crap sued out of them. The **** mentality never ceases to amaze me.

Who's mentioned anything about beating anyone???? Who's mentioned anything about a wife or kids? Randy's the only one that has said Charles might have a gun and shoot someone! Randy is the only person whose said anything about physical violence and he's mentioned it multiple times.

Yah Chucky over there is the only one talking physical harm to anyone, most of it involving beating women and children and shooting Aggies.

If he were quasi-intelligent he'd step away from the keyboard.

Instead he's reading this thread.

I wonder how it feels knowing you're not anonymous online. Oh wait. That's actually exactly a lot of us are on this site because of the annual TexAgs tailgates. Damn, ain't that pretty cool for us!

Maybe that's the answer. Psychosis? Bipolar? Dissociative personality disorder?

Maybe it's just Valentines coming up and neither of his ex-wives are around to see the pay-by-the-hour girl he's taking out.

This.

The only person mentioning violence, wife, or kids, is Randy. And he's mentioned all three about 50 times now. The poster who compared him to Goebels was balls on accurate. Reality means nothing to Randy. It's all about what he can get the semi-retarded lemmings on the Shag to believe. His big green bar and small mention by a real journalist is all the validation that he needs that his delusional perspective on reality is taking root.

Poor *******. Please, Randy, get the help that you need before you harm anyone around you. Or, just do the world a huge favor and shoot yourself.

The problem with him not being Charles Satterfield is a guy living in Houston named Charles Satterfield claims to by Duke.

He even used to hang out at the Aggie Game Watching parties at Pub Fiction. Not just one but many. Weird behavior for somebody who hates Aggies as much as he does.

I really don't understand his obsession with the # of subs A&M had available. By all accounts I've seen, the Aggies were "crippled" or "decimated" by injuries. At least two accounts the day after the game mention that Gill had to be called down from the press box as a result. They were down to the last group of healthy backs.

Does Gill literally need to be the only sub for the tradition of the 12th Man to be legit? I've seen a few accounts where A&M had 18 men suited for the game, so 3 injuries would take the roster to 15 with 0 backs in reserve. The 12th Man tradition is about willingness to stand for the team and yell as a 12th member of the team. I'm pretty sure Gill's actions are a good representation of what the 12th Man symbolizes.

Gill himself was quite open about the radio play in both a newspaper interview and at Muster in '64. A&M isn't hiding these things, we keep them in the archives. Gill also said the '22 game started the tradition because the true account of that game is what we refer to as the origin of the 12th Man.

Traditions evolve, often involve a bit of mysticism, and it doesn't bother me if the history got a little bent over the years. I think Randy's uncovered some fascinating research and his complete obsession with A&M has inspired me to learn more about our traditions. I'll probably write something up this Spring or Summer about my findings, but I need to do a lot more research to do the piece justice.

It seems to me that twelfth man was used more generically in the 20s and 30s, but A&M really began to distinguish itself starting in the mid-30s and 12th Man grew more and more distinct as other schools stopped using it while A&M continued to over time.

tl;dr

His obsession is attention and affirmation, and that's what the shag is giving him. The guy leads a lonely, empty life and has found that the best way to feel worthwhile is garnering attention from a cultish online community whose one common theme (besides being mouthbreathing idiots) is a hatred of ****.

What's the easiest way to feel welcomed on that site? Rip on ****. He's taken it a step further than most, but for a guy who has no real value on his time, he doesn't see the big deal about the amount of time he's invested into a project that hasn't changed anything about what the 12th man means to A&M. Of course he made up the story's bout the bet, but he doesn't even pretend to have a reason now.

He's like the grinch who doesn't understand the meaning of Christmas watching out on Christmas morning when he thinks he's stolen Christmas from the whos. However, instead of realizing his mistake, he goes into a psychotic rage further trying to prove his warped beliefs. He's got several hundred shag-holes egging him on, so he wont ever stop because he's got a community of delusion supporting him.

He gave up being rational a long time ago, and he won't go away until something big happens. He enjoys the attention too much. In fact, with way he keeps bringing up violence, I would be willing to bet he would inflict harm on himself, blame it on **** just because of the amount of attention it would bring to himself.

He doesn't hate A&M as much as he enjoys the praise from people. That's his motivation. It's sad really. Guy obviously loves the anonymous online attention more than any attention he gets in real life or else he wouldn't put the time into it that he does.

I never heard any Aggie say we "originated the term." I've always heard that we started calling our entire Student Body the 12th Man, and that became a tradition, and morphed into calling all of our fans at every game "The 12th Man," even in sports that didn't have 11 athletes competing at the time, etc.

Mr. Duke should not accuse us of doing something we never did. Thank you, carry on.
